Upgraded 3D printer today - Since 2019, Ender 3 Pro taught me a lot and now I want to spend more time printing, less time tinkering with the printer. Let's see how the BambuLab A1 with AMS lite performs. Seems to be liked by a lot of folks, and not liked by another group because its closed source.

#HotTake A second hand #3dprinter (open source variety) is worth more than a new one. I have a second hand, well aged #Ender3 and I wouldn't have change it for one straight out of factory if someone offered to swap. I got it modded, added some tiny but significant mods myself, like a kapton tape in some strategic places or a direct deivinator. It's a much better machine than a new one. It is worth more than a new one to anyone with a brain. I got it for 2/3 of the price. It's a steal. Buy used 3d printers, it's really worth it, they are immortal. Ofc I'm not talking about those closed sourced, gated bs machines. I'm talking about the good machines originating from #reprap ecosystem and project.

Welp... the ol' 3D printer finally got diagnosed. Turns out the Z-axis problems were because my Y-axis eccentric nuts got all loose and made the print bed tilty along the X-axis. So all that quizzical re-leveling effort was focused on the thumbwheels, which was already past the true source of the problem.

With the nuts tighter, that also made my infuriating probe errors disappear.

Due to life *waves around in general* my #3DPrinter has sat unused for possibly six months? Anyway the filament has deteriorated in the Bowden tube and the hot end. This meant I had to dismantle the whole shebang. Then stick the Bowden tube in boiling water to soften the old filament. Anyway. All sorted and the new ‘Fire Engine’ red filament passed the calibration #cat test. #3DPrinting #Ender3

Finally finished the replacement of the old 8-bit board with 32-bit v 4.2.7 silent board on my Ender-3. I don't know how does the motherboard affect the silence of the 3D printer, but the difference is staggering. Before it was like a column of tanks riding through town, no all I can hear is the fan ... 😀 👍 Looking soon to follow with the installation of CR-touch. I really need to step up my 3D printing game, have fallen behind a little bit in recent years ...

Good news! Today I put on the time and my trusty old #Ender3 is still working fine. Not the best prints but it does the trick for what I need.

Bad news! My old old laptop is dying. It's a bit sad, since will be the first time I will need to throw away a laptop just by its age (it's not broken) someday in the near future.

Earlier this week I was regretting not pulling the trigger on a #bambulab A1. Today, not so much.

I'm upgrading from an original model Ender 3. It was frankly a bit of a pain in the ass and I hadn't used it and almost a year. However, not long ago I installed a CR Touch auto bed levelling kit and oh man, is it ever better to use. I haven't levelled my bed in about 8 prints and every print has looked just great.

My natural inclination is the Ender 3 v3 KE. I don't see how it could not be a huge upgrade from what I'm used to.

Then I remember there are, in fact, other companies besides Creality and Bambu that make 3D printers. Is there another model you'd recommend?

Anybody got any tips when it comes to automatic bed levelling? I have an #Ender3 Pro (probably irrelevant, but with one of those no-name red aluminum dual-gear extruders), and I'm kinda tired of levelling the magnetic build plate.

Should I go BL Touch? CR Touch? Would the upgrade be entirely wasted on a magnetic build surface? I've definitely considered a glass plate, although I do have my paper shims under the bed pretty damn close to flat now, lol

Is there anything I should...
