@rasterweb you can get pretty crazy distances with LoRa if the conditions are right. A former colleague hit a LoRaWAN basestation in Rotterdam from the top of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales once.

The receiving antenna might have been decent, but his transmitter was just a 10cm handheld one; but that's heading towards 400 miles!
