I just got a hearing test. The results surprised me.
tr;dr: earplugs really do work to protect your hearing! But you have to wear them every time! #tinnitus
@wjt sorry to hear about these problems, but also very glad you've been wearing ear plugs all these years. i got pretty religious about ear plugs early on and am really glad i did given how many shows i've done sound for, played, or attended. i expect i have probably have some mild damage but overall still hearing fine after almost 30 years of going to shows
@d6 yes, it was really heartening to know it has been worth it. Shame about the circumstances. I will be even more evangelical about them than I have previously been!
(And, not sure about going to a loud show next weekend I've been looking forward to for months – if there is any hope of improvement it seems unlikely that loud noise, even with 19 dB reduction, will improve the odds.)
