Guess today I'm gonna be upgrading to Zotero 7.
I recently started saving ePubs in anticipation of their arrival
Dark mode has happened
If you want to turn dark mode off because it happened automatically following OS settings it's in:
Zotero > Preferences > General in the Interfaces section at the top.
ePubs are paginated (page turn on click or big downward scroll) by default.
If you want continuous scrolling you access the setting thusly:
Open an ePub, then View and select "Scrolled" rather than "Paginated" in the second menu grouping.
I am not an application performance person, but I just opened 10+ pdfs and ePubs and tried all the actions that were getting me the spinning beach ball of death in Zotero 6 (like moving entries between folders and renaming folders) and I am now not getting the spinning beach ball of death and things seem much improved.
(I'm not seeing memory usage over 2 GB on my very old Intel MacBookPro, I can't remember peak memory usage before but I think it was higher.)
Another ePub setting for Zotero: you can set the font for ePubs in
Zotero > Preferences > General > Reader
but note that the setting is labelled "Ebook font"
There's some more settings for how ePub text appears directly in the reader view too via the "Aa" icon.
I think this is for pdfs and ePubs.
So if you have dark mode on (either automatic from your OS level setting or at the application level) you can toggle dark mode on and off from the View menu in the reader view.
However, if you have dark mode off in Preferences this setting is greyed out and unavailable, which is a little odd.
