For those of you out there who have gotten so dejected with #Florida and #RedState politics ruining the U.S.A. that you wanted to kick us out, here is your joyful reminder that there are good people doing the work. Today I went and took pictures after a peaceful protest that saw 3 blocks of Central Avenue in St. Petersburg centered on a pride rainbow painted intersection chalked with more rainbows and retribution for DeSantis and Trump than one could count.
On Friday, on my way home from work, the Florida Department of Transportation was surrounded by cops as they painted over an artistic, apolitical mural at an intersection adjacent to our campus. I rolled down the window, gave a thumbs down, and booed. The police wished me a nice weekend. Later, two reverends were arrested for kneeling and praying on a Black Lives Matter mural across town that the governor had ordered painted over. I posted on Next Door. My suspicions that most are not ready to rise up to this moment were corroborated by the myriad responses cheering on a rogue government preventing speech in small communities.
