One of the few good things to emerge from the exposure of war secrets by US officials on Signal has been the memes and humour. This one on BlueSky really tickled my fancy - mainly because I studied the Russian Revolution at university some 50 years ago and it was one of my favourite papers ever.

Damien Walter on the marxism of Star Wars: Andor.

Andor’s character is modelled after young Stalin, Ryles has Trotskyite rhetoric, the prison on Narkina 5 is modelled after Russian empire’s Gulag system.

It shows the Republic was already a corrupt oligarchy before the empire. The fascism was already there. The Empire was the symptom, not the cause.

Season 2 will be released on April 22: Vladimir Lenin’s birthday.
