@jeffowski Actually, it's more complicated. Try "The Evolution of Cooperation" by Robert Axelrod. See also the Hawk Dove game (Hawk and Dove are names for strategies used by individuals of the same species). TL;DR: cooperative behaviour has evolved to be contingent on the circumstances, and the stable state has a mix of different strategies in the population. Beyond that, it's *really* messy. But any practical plan has to deal with it.
