Okay fellow #scifi fans, if you could, which science fiction universe would you choose to live in?

Token Sane Person

@eosfpodcast Star Trek, but only as long as I get to be a citizen of the Federation.

@tokensane @eosfpodcast 🤣 It’d be pretty terrible to pick Star Trek and wake up as a Borg. 😳

@WTL @tokensane @eosfpodcast
I always wondered how the Borg started out. Nightmare-style bio computer? Ultimate democracy? Attempt to cheat death? Something like the Thrum from project Hail Mary?
I could totally see joining some of these willingly, especially if temporary was an option. And some of these don’t seem like a system that would force people to join so it makes me wonder how it went so wrong.

Agreed, the origin of the Borg is an intriguing mystery - and I hope it remains so.

The same as with Yoda's race and homeworld in Star Wars. A little mystery is always good.

@eosfpodcast @mnakc @tokensane 🤔 Could be an interesting avenue to explore; especially as most of the Borg look human. But, agreed, mystery is good.

@mnakc @WTL @tokensane @eosfpodcast I had just been introduced to the Internet when the Borg appeared on our screens. At the time, I saw this new Internet as a possible precursor to the Borg -- (nearly) instant information sharing, large-scale group consensus, etc. Then the Web appeared.

@mnakc @WTL @tokensane @eosfpodcast In the beta canon the origin of Borg is explained in the Star Trek Destiny book trilogy (and your guesses are close to what happened)

@WTL @tokensane @eosfpodcast I actually think the Borg aren’t bad, at least as weren’t until say First Contact, or Voyager in particular.

Those shows played up this idea of a malovelent queen that mind controls everyone, but that felt like jettisoning the most intriguing idea of the the Borg — the collective.

I figured assimilation was ultimately a no experience from a personality/ego perspective. You just become the Collective. All your memories are still there, as is everyone else’s. You aren’t assimilated. You ascend.

The Borg is awesome. The Collective is immortality.

Federation member, please and thank you!
