@garius On the mono audio thing - I grew up on a small island in the tropics, and while there was an indoor cinema, almost everyone went to the drive-in (which I presume was a societal import from the USA). Tinny speaker hung on the car window.. well, the sound was tinny, the speaker case was a lump of metal that would do serious harm. Mono mix had to be the way - did that all into the 90s before I left the country. Parents had to suffer whatever kids wanted to watch, no waiting outside!

@garius yep. Must be hell for sound designers on modern films where they want the sound to move around. Dont know if they ever moved to radio transmission, but I could see modern cars going "nah, can't leave the battery on like that for 2 hours" and turning off mid movie.
I remember the experience fondly. Cars honking horns during various scenes, mid movie intermission to go get food and drink, or find friends and chat and so on.
