This chap clearly didn't get on with org-roam but I always enjoy a contrarian view which is thought provoking.
Still pondering on this article and the difference between orgroam and denote. I increasingly find myself naming roam nodes with a pseudo naming convention that isn't dissimilar to denote.
Last week, I played with org roam dailies but really struggled to locate useful info from Tuesday as it wasn't 'tagged' correctly.
Presumably I should be using consult ripgrep but it's all so much work.
@jbaty has a lot to answer for as I want a single universal solution (not 37).
@andyc Wait'll you try Howm!
Org-roam is fancy but it's easier for me to reason about Denote. Plus, Denote is useful outside of emacs and you can use any kind of text file/format you like (not just .org).
@andyc > Suffice it to say, I never got the Roam effect, even with a tool like Obsidian, which I used for a while. Looking at their super pretty graph …
Zettelkasten is overrated. Not everybody needs to become like a prof. I discovered paper&pen mindmaps for me. there i discovered something like a WoW Effekt learning new things or planing something. not every brain works in plain text.
@andyc feels like this person maybe is just not into the Zettelkasten way of thinking - which is totally fine btw. but that's where org-roam's design works really well.
I do like Obsidian because it feels like it's well designed for the Zettelkasten approach but then Emacs is a better way of dealing with anything text..
To get that in Emacs I use org-roam and the ui because I like that graph and to link my thinking.. Use whatever works best for your personal needs I say.
@andyc kinda reads like someone that decided to use Org Roam how other people use it instead of how it works for them.
