M-I-L. What time is it ?
Me: Ten past 9.
M-I-L. No, no. I mean what time is it really ?
Me: Well if you catching a train or watching a TV program, it's ten past 9.
Time passes. Slowly,
M-I-L: Is that clock correct ?
Me: Yes.
M-I-L: So that is the right time ?
Me: Yes.
M-I-L: But what time is it really ?
Rinse and repeat.
M-I-L: My watch says it's quarter past 2. Is that right ?
Me: No (offers to adjust it).
M-I-L: So now it says quarter past 3. Is that right ?
Me: Would you like a sandwich for tea ?
M-I-L: Oh not really. I don't really feel hungry yet.
Me: OK.
M-I-L: What time is it ?
Me: Ten to 6.
M-I-L: Is that the real time ?
Me: Yes.
Exasperated, I decided to spice things up a little...
Me: Well, of course, your body thinks it is ten to 5 which is probably why you're not hungry yet.
M-I-L: But what time is it really ?
Me: Time to pack up and for me to run you back home.
My punishment for my little joke was the wall clock, oven clock, boiler clock, light timer, phone clock hell that awaited us when we entered the M-I-L's house
