Just announced: this year's local elections in East Sussex, West Sussex, Essex, Thurrock, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Suffolk and Surrey will be postponed until 2026 to allow for reorganisation in these areas.
These councils contain 599 councillors, reducing the number of councillors due to be elected on 1 May by 26.6%.
The government have also announced new devolution proposals will be pursued in six areas of England, with the intention of holding mayoral elections next year.
