I see a lot of people spreading misinformation about Microsoft Recall, so let's be clear with what we know so far:

  • Recall will ONLY WORK on Copilot+ PCs. This is because they have a Snapdragon CPU, which is very efficient at AI tasks.
  • Recall CAN BE DISABLED.
  • You CAN prevent Recall from accessing certain apps and websites
  • Everything Recall does is STORED LOCALLY. This is likely why it requires a powerful CPU.
  • You can manage EVERYTHING about Recall. Delete snapshots, adjust the times it runs, etc.
  • Again, THIS WILL ONLY BE ON COPILOT+ PCs. If you don't want the feature, then simply do not get a Copilot+ PC.

Now can we stop fearmongering about it, please? I know it involves everyone's two least favorite letters right now, but that's not an excuse to straight up spread misinformation.

@ohanamatsumae You can disable Microsoft Recall....

If you click past a vague but ominous warning that some features won't work
And then some important features don't work.
And then an app you need requires it.
And then the next version quietly does upload your info to MS

We know how this goes.

@tokensane You forgot the spontaneous windows update that unexpectedly reenables it.
