In the middle of wobbles about replacing a car, at least I can be comforted that the cars I have been looking at are the right ones, given how popular they are.
Three times I’ve spoken to dealers about a car, three times they’ve just sold within the previous hour.
Not only am I undecided between a few “future classics”, I also have half a mind to jump ship to full battery EV, since I also have the land rover if I need to do the type of driving which doesn't suit EVs.
@matstace Despite driving one, I still have no clue how to asses a used EV. I think ADAC and DEKRA in Germany started to provide battery health assessment. Is there anything reliable like that in UK?
I recall ClearWatt was even featured on Fully Charged, but I'm rather skeptical of doing this kind of analysis without actually plugging into OBD2 port.
@skolima Not that I've seen - I'm probably going via a dealer so I can trade in the hatchback, so hopefully there's a bit more protection that way. I'm looking at my longest journey as being the 200 mile round day-trip to London, so am aiming for things with 270+ mile range to cover for a little battery deg/cold weather.
I'm also not super concerned, I’m treating it like buying an ICE car, I have no way of knowing the engine isn't about to self-destruct after a couple of hundred miles.
@skolima Of course, I might just stick with burning ancient dinosaur juice and go for something silly like a five litre V8 Mustang ;-)
@matstace That kind of range means one of the newer ones - the most risk was with the early models that had no/very little temperature control for the battery system. Like e.g. early Leafs. Recent EVs aren't supposed to allow you to abuse the battery that much ;-)
