I'm about to test the repairability of a 13" laptop.
This is an unplanned test... wish me luck!

The bad news of dropping it is tempered by the good news the screen is fine, the keyboard is fine. It seems the motherboard is fine but the fingerprint reader is toast.

Unfortunately the chassis is not available in the framework online shop so I've emailed support

Update 1: Framework repair parts ordered! Time since laptop drop = 20 hours

The parts I needed were available in the online store but I was using the wrong words to search.

Framework support also replied quickly to my photos to tell me the parts I needed, including directing me to a part that included the fingerprint sensor and costs less than buying top cover and sensor separately.

@frameworkcomputer is living up to the repairability hype. Is it hype when it's true?

Update 2: Laptop repaired!

The parts arrived yesterday afternoon it took just 30 minutes to swap everything into the new bottom cover & replace the input cover.

I will miss the looks from people when they saw me with a half removed keyboard. The only way I could power on was by removing and reconnecting the keyboard, very eccentric and it suited me.

I'm thrilled to have been able to repair my laptop rather than replace it, thanks again @frameworkcomputer !

@Sroot Delighted to hear this success story! Thanks for sharing!

@frameworkcomputer @Sroot I own a framework 16 and this comforts my choice :)

Next step would be a recycling process for the damaged parts to recover the metals and rare materials to make new parts.

@jhelou
We have that in the UK for all electrical waste, we take them to a recycling centre. However... The ideal is reduce, REUSE, recycle.. so I am so tempted to frame the broken bits as a piece of art for my wall :-)
It will go well with the old RAM chips I turned into fridge magnets

Decoration is definitely a matter of taste and broken electronics don´t quite fit with mine. I'd rather the components be properly extracted and reused as electronics or properly recycled.
