some porsche driver literally unplugged my EV which was charging at an electrify america charger at the mall while i took care of some errands because she “needed to charge asap”
@ariadne huh. I am surprised the plug isn't latched in until the car owner unlatches it, or at least until the charge is done or something.
@Ailuridae it is. i have video of her walking up to the charger and pushing the stop button.
@ariadne @Ailuridae wow, rude! Mine won’t unlock the cable until the car is unlocked even if the charge is done, which is a much better design imo!! I’m livid for you!
@CatherineFlick @Ailuridae all chargers will unlock if you hit the stop button on the charger. it’s required by regulations throughout the world.
@ariadne @CatherineFlick hmm. on one hand makes sense, on the other, this nonsense. I guess just gotta rely on social norms, but clearly won't stop people like this...
@ariadne @Ailuridae really? Mine definitely doesn’t - when I first got it, it took me quite a while to work out how to get the car to let the cable go!
@CatherineFlick @Ailuridae maybe it’s different in UK, but at least over here the charger controls the locked state of the connector
@ariadne @Ailuridae yeah I checked and you definitely have to hit the unlock button on the fob or door handle and then you get 15 seconds to pull out the cable. Hyundai Kona if you’re curious!
@CatherineFlick @Ailuridae well i expect this karen would have just hit the unlock button on the door handle :))))
@ariadne @Ailuridae (you need the key in vicinity for this to work!) but yeah what a piece of work. Rude rude rude.
@ariadne @CatherineFlick @Ailuridae our eGolf (2015, I think) locks the cable in except for 30s after the car is unlocked. Car already unlocked and you want to unplug? Lock it first, then unlock.
Mostly, it's annoying, but it would prevent the Porsche experience™
Seriously, wtf with that driver? "I decided you didn't need it as much as I did"?
@evana @CatherineFlick @Ailuridae hmm weird, maybe there is a setting to make the car control the locked state of the plug after all then
@ariadne @CatherineFlick @Ailuridae the Golf is J1772, and the physical locking part is definitely part of the car.
The Tesla connector is much nicer, I'm looking forward to that becoming standard.
@evana @ariadne @CatherineFlick
Agreed! But let's try to refer to it as NACS (North American Charging Standard) (or SAE J3400 in a pinch) as much as possible.
Of course for a while will need to say stuff like "the NACS charger (Telsa)" so people know wtf we are talking about. I just don't want it popularly known as "the Tesla charger" forever...
