OmilenIn the shadows of the forest, delicate white flowers swayed in the wind.
When I took the photo of this flower, I didn't realize its mesmerizing beauty or the profound influence plants have on cultural history and the role they have played in folk medicine. This delicate plant is often called the witch's plant, as it was frequently used as a protective plant in medieval folk magic. It was believed to protect against witchcraft and evil spirits if planted near the home or carried around.
In Ancient Greece, the plant was associated with the goddess Circe, goddess of magic and transformation, hence its botanical name: Circaea. The herb also appears in Celtic tradition as a component of rituals intended to promote protection and healing, and is widely used in modern herbal medicine.
