Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>A quiet Sunday afternoon sipping this fantastic Deanston and browsing a music book about The Byrds, written by a friend.</p><p>Of all the Deanstons I have had, this is my favourite. Nine years in Bourbon barrels and finished for three in Pedro Ximenez casks. Probably not a first-fill PX cask, as whilst the influence is there, it's not overpowering the wonderful Deanston spirit. </p><p>Cask Strength at 58.1% ABV, and of course, no chill-filtration or added colour. </p><p>Chocolate, orange peel, and strawberries on the nose, with a touch of water releasing further aromas of dark fruit, including figs and raisins. Lovely and sweet on the palate with more fruit, along with nuts, vanilla and caramel. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>Friday night drams and fitba.</p><p>Eight-year-old Deanston finished in Banyuls casks, a French fortified wine from the French/Spanish border, NC, NCF at 55.5% ABV. <br>Dark sticky raisins, sultanas and dates on the nose with wafts of liquorice and cola. Big flavours hit the tongue with more dark fruit, chocolate, treacle toffee, and gentle spice. Dram to dull the pain, just in case Scotland play anything like they did on Friday 😩.</p><p>Tri Carragh Glen Elgin, NC, NCF, 55.5% abv. </p><p>More and more I am enjoying Port Cask finishes, and this 1st Fill Tawny Port finish is excellent 🥰. Not particularly <br>bold on the nose, rather, subtle chocolate, red fruit, floral and slight savoury notes. Juicy mouthful of dark fruit and caramel, citrus, almost marmalade-like. NC, NCF, 59.3% abv finished in Tokaji. </p><p>Slight ginger spice with wave after wave of red fruit on the nose: raspberries, redcurrants and sweet strawberries, like Angel Delight 😀 (a powdered dessert mix here in the UK). Citrusy orange hits the tongue which develops into sweet candied orange peel, caramel and a lovely dry, woody spiciness. A long finish of liquorice, spice and subtle grassy notes.</p><p>It is superb 😍 I get something different with every mouthful. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>A wee Knockdhu nightcap.</p><p>Infrequent Flyers Knockdhu 8, NC, NCF, 58.9% abv (bottled 2021)</p><p>Gentle on the nose with subtle waves of sweet vanilla, heather honey and floral aromas. Leave it for a few minutes and along comes some melon, apple and citrusy lemon. The first sip comes in roaring hot, spicy and peppery. A few drops of water and it calms to an oily creamy mouthfeel with more sweet white fruit: apples, banana, melon and a hint of toffee. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>Friday night Scottish Championship Fitba' - a bit of a meaningless game between Raith and Dunfermline, but it is a local Derby so there might be some tetchiness there :-D </p><p>Sipping this splendid Glen Elgin from local IBs Tri Carragh.</p><p>Tri Carragh - Glen Elgin 12, 55.5% abv, NC, NCF. </p><p>Black cherry compote, blackcurrants and raspberries. Sweet barley sugar and sherbert. First sip and a lovely tingle on the lips and tongue. A few drops of water release gentle floral notes, liquorice, black treacle and a touch of mint. Possible banana skin for Hibs.</p><p>Tonight's drams:<br>Tobermory 10 finished in Port Casks<br>Skene Knockdhu 10</p><p>Tobermory 10 60.3% abv, NC, NCF. <br>Five years in American Oak Ex-Bourbon Barrells then finished for a further five in Port Casks. Absolutely outstanding 🥰 Lovely creamy mouthfeel with sweet fruity notes and some nuttiness. Chocolate and spicy cinnamon red berries which linger on the palate.</p><p>Skene Knockdhu 10 yo, NC, NCF 50% abv.<br>A lovely honey colour - creamy toffee and wood notes with bright red fruit. Floral parma violets, vanilla, red fruit and honey with ginger heat. A guid new year to ane an' a' when it comes. </p><p>Tri Carragh, Glen Garioch 11, NC, NCF, 54.7% abv</p><p>Packed with fruit - pineapple, and peaches on the nose followed by toffee and creamy caramel. Lovely sweet mouthful, white chocolate and more fruit, warm spicy apples. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>Sipping this favourite and settling down to Friday night Scottish Championship football with leaders Falkirk setting about consolidating their place at the top.</p><p>Deanston Virgin Oak. NAS, NC, NCF, 46.3% abv. </p><p>Fresh orchard fruit, citrusy notes of orange and lemon peel, with lots of honey and vanilla coming through. Typical Deanston waxy mouthfeel with more fruit joined by liquorice, woody spice and chocolate. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>Whisky Advent Dram #24 </p><p>Atom Spirits - Christmas cake&amp; Dark chocolate&amp; Madjool dates&amp; Cinnamon. 8yo, 48% abv, NC, NCF. </p><p>Loads and loads and loads of red fruit, cloves and cinnamon, mulled wine, a touch of gingerbread and sweet barley sugar. Smooth and syrupy on the palate with more dried fruit, honey, spice, caramel and dark chocolate. Christmas cake finish, warm and spicy with hints of citrus and dried cherry. </p><p>Yes, it's a cliché - but it does taste like Christmas in a glass! <br> <br>I chose this final Whisky Advent dram as a winter warmer, anticipating a cold crisp December night. Foosty Puddin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>My Whisky Advent Dram </p><p>#22</p><p>Glen Garioch 15yo, Sherry Cask Matured, 53.7%, NC, NCF</p><p>The nose is dominated by dark fruit: dates, raisins, cherries, cinnamon-spiced apples and chocolate orange but there are also some meaty notes lurking. Initially, I got a slight sulfurous, spent matches whiff, but this disappeared with a few drops of water. The Geery waxiness is there in the first mouthful with more dark fruit, chocolate and sweet cola cubes. Touches of vanilla and sweet toffee sauce develop alongside woody, peppery spice. A real hit on the palate of warm cinnamon and ginger spice - nippy tingles on the lips and tongue.
