Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Further attempts while diagnosing the compressor show: We don't have enough power for this thing, at least not at the end of the 2.5mm² extension cord I run from the kitchen.</p><p>So I can cut up to ~5mm and any more causes too much voltage drop and the torch starts flickering.</p><p>I tried with the 3300W generator and that goes into overload after a few seconds at 40A. It cut 10mm plow share for a few seconds, so the machine is ok.</p><p>We'll have to sort out the power situation first.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/PlasmaCutter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PlasmaCutter</span></a></p>
Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Last plasma cutter from the bargain bin, €95 with two marzipan croissants.</p><p>After trouble with the airline being too small and the big one not fitting, hooking it up directly to the compressor worked well.</p><p>Good test cuts on sheet metal, but then a problem and the nozzle melted.</p><p>Pressure switch on the compressor hung and air supply had dropped to nothing.</p><p>Got spare nozzles, but it started raining so I had to reel in the extension cord.</p><p>Next: Fix compressor, retry 😐</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/PlasmaCutter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PlasmaCutter</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Fail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fail</span></a></p>

Supposedly cuts up to 9mm steel.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/PlasmaCutter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PlasmaCutter</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Tools" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tools</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Lidl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lidl</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Parkside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Parkside</span></a></p>
Matt Godden<p>Set up a new <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Welding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Welding</span></a> trolley for my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TIG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TIG</span></a> / <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PlasmaCutter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PlasmaCutter</span></a> unit. It's really difficult in Australia to find low-profile welding trolleys that handle a heavy machine (20+KG), AND have a long shelf for the unit itself. That's compounded by a design quirk on mine - the shield gas inlet is dead centre, which means the fittings align with the closest point of the gas bottle. The solution - <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> standoffs for the bottle's cradle (until I can make something more engineered).
