Really gotta get my server working properly so I can start playing about with ActivityPub

This is coming from a place of making a living wage but

‘Capital stealing the value of my labor’ doesn’t feel nearly as important as capital stealing my LIFE.

40 hours of my week + recovery time. My education choices. Where I can live. Whether I own a pet. Capitalism limits all the wonderful things I could do in life.

I know money can acquire some of these things. I just think the phrase ‘capitalism steals the value of your labor’ isn’t communicating well how much capitalism steals from us.

thank you, @garbados, for writing about "Structural Advantages for Software Developers to Leverage and Destroy"

i always knew software was somehow special, but i didn't realise how much leverage we (could) have

#DearWhitePeople No one wants you to feel guilty. Your fragility is hard enough to deal with without you hamming it up performatively. What we want is for you to acknowledge the systemic advantages you have because of whiteness and maybe even do some work to dismantle those systems that unfairly privilege you.

Everybody should know the basics of plumbing, just in case.

if you turn up for gender studies without your gender they make you go through lost property and borrow a sweaty old one :-/

Some #rustlang devs saw it was wrong and made it right.

If you absolutely must use VSCode, make sure it's not the worst version of it.

I think it would be nice to help our friends, help each other run social nodes. More blog posts, wikis, services like mastohost. What else?

I can't get any fucking peace in this house

for myself, i'm actually looking for people to follow with socialist/poc/technology intersectional perspectives bc i want to learn from peers in this area

so, please give me some recommendations! also, i'd appreciate this being boosted as well so that i can get some more circulation. in addition, don't hesitate to recommend yourself

Seems it is very difficult to catch a tube at this time of day 9:15

Men's self-image, body stuff (-,+)

There were many ideas I had in mind when creating Kith.Kitchen: that it could be more than just a mircoblog; from providing useful tools for finding and creating recipes, to helping people organise around food-related social causes.

With this in mind I'd like to set up a group to help run the project as a cooperative, to keep it sustainable and help realise its potential.

If you're interested in helping, please let me know - no experience required, just a desire to help grow our community!

Wanna have a bit of fun watching people get all confused while revealing society's inherent patriarchal bias?

Refer to your sewing machine as a 'power tool.'

“Physical abuse is normally preceded by verbal violence. When the language of the elites violates the limits imposed by decency, it causes more and more physical violence. Unfortunately this is not a theory but the reality, as the growing cases of racially and religiously based violence demonstrate"

Open social media for the UK

A social media community hosted in the UK; part of the Mastodon/ActivityPub federated social network, which allows you to follow users on other communities. It's a bit like Twitter but without a single company in control.

If you use this server, you are required to abide by our Code of Conduct. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other communities you can use.

If you're coming here from Twitter, there are some very useful services to help you find friends and automatically crosspost toots that you might like to set up once you're signed in.

This is a volunteer-run community administered by @floppy, and hosted by Mastohost in the UK. Please support our running costs by joining the Open Collective and becoming a backer. Thanks go to our existing backers - this place exists because of them!

Service status is available from our status page and the @status account.
