@gbhnews Lots of folks won't follow you unless you CW.

This isn't as stupid as it might sound. Folks want to control *when* they see news (not the lighthearted stuff, maybe, but the stuff that might make them down). And folks want to boost news, but their followers will certainly complain if it's not CWd – after all, they didn't follow you.

CWing a post isn't hiding it. It's almost a reflex to click on it. It just stops you seeing it out of the corner of your eye.

My 10c.

@fishidwardrobe interesting. We have separated more serious updates from the more lighthearted poll already. Let me think it through...

@gbhnews @fishidwardrobe I don’t think most of the morning digest posts need them, maybe occasionally. But if you transition to posting more links to individual stories, it’s definitely worth considering.

@fishidwardrobe @gbhnews Hey, thanks for this info. I’ve used a CW maybe once. Is there a guide of standard types of CWs and what situations one would/should use them? This is definitely a friendlier place and if I can add to that, I should like to try.

@unclepj @gbhnews
There isn't really a standard, and I suppose there couldn't be really.

Most folks who care about CW think you should CW news. But they don't really mean lighthearted stuff, they mean what I call "doom". (Lots of us don't want to be surprised by, eg, another headline about how the PM is planning a new torture chamber for refugees.)

I happen to think you should say upfront what you will CW in your profile. But, new idea.

@fishidwardrobe @gbhnews Thanks! I did a quick search of the #contentwarnings hash and found a few posts from people on the subject. I’m going to make a concerted effort to be considerate of others triggers. Mostly political posts, though I do few enough of those.
