So I didn't know, but Europe already has a backup of PubMed, the database of biomedical research publications. The US PubMed broke down over the weekend. And here is our alternative: europepmc.org/ #pubmed #pmc

@bert_hubert ‘PubMed Central’ and ‘PubMed’ are quite different; the first is a repository for research papers themselves, the second a database of research abstracts that includes an awful lot more. I think this is a back up of the former. Now, I do suspect lots of amazing people have been busy scraping PubMed in case of issues, as it has had a warning on it about heavy traffic a few times recently.

@clare_hooley @bert_hubert I think that I'm correct in saying that EuropePMC contains PubMed (or, at least enough of everything indexed in PubMed) per europepmc.org/Help#epmccontent

Differences between PubMed, PMC and Europe PMC Overall, Europe PMC contains more records than both PubMed and PubMed Central (PMC). In brief, Europe PMC contains all of the PubMed abstracts, the vast majority of PMC content, plus additional content including preprints, microPublications, patents, NHS clinical guidelines and Agricola records.

@agvbergin @bert_hubert I’ll go check at some point if it does have things I know are in PubMed but not in PubMed central!
