Ah yes “respect for the academic tradition”, that’s what we should be prioritising over EDI, more like “respect for the backward opinions of old white men in academia for whom the advent of EDI is the first time they’ve ever been challenged on their prejudices”. Diversity obsession is destroying universities, says Cambridge don Nicola Woolcock Education Editor Universities are being destroyed from within by lecturers embracing equality, diversity and inclusion, a Cambridge professor has said. Professor John Marenbon, a fellow of the British Academy, says ideologically driven academics are policing one another with sinister ideology rather than having views imposed on them by managers. Writing for Politeia, a think tank, he says universities should aim to be exclusive and hierarchical, and that the only diversity promoted should be of that of viewpoint. Marenbon, a senior research fellow at Trinity College, describes supporters of EDI as "deeply confused". Instead he wants academics to promote the values of truthfulness, unworldliness and respect for the academic tradition.
