👋 I was a radio astronomer - I looked at distant galaxies with ground-based radio telescopes 📡 and echoes of the Big Bang from space 🛰. I co-authored a book of space-related infographics. I’ve cycled across the US and Europe. These days I mostly work with open data in the UK. I like to make things.

@slowe Hi! You might not remember me but Eli Bressert introduced us on Twitter a few years ago: twitter.com/astronomyblog/stat …anyway very random but I'm going to be in Yorkshire Sunday–Tuesday and I thought of you, let me know if you'd like to get a cuppa!

TwitterStuart on Twitter“@johnvmcdonnell Cheers! I now have a nice cup of Yorkshire tea made by a Yorkshireman in Yorkshire. ;)”

@jmcdonnell Hi John. Which bit of Yorkshire are you going to be in?

@jmcdonnell If you are near Leeds tomorrow let me know.

@slowe Hi Stuart! I was a happy user of the Interactive Book of Cosmos. Always very immediate and helpful to remember who was on board the ISS and to solve other targeted doubts. Congrats for that huge job. Do you know if it will be updated in the future? It stops at Soyuz MS-18. Thanks!

@astronauticast Hi. I had too many different things to try to maintain (both paid work and other) and I couldn't keep on top of it all along with my dad having had a stroke and the global pandemic and everything. So lots of stuff has fallen by the wayside. I'll try to bring it up to date (I'm assuming you mean cosmos-book.github.io/human-sp)

cosmos-book.github.ioWho is in space?Find out who is, and was, in space.

@astronauticast And now that I'm looking at it again, I've also remembered that I was worried that as things shift to more private spaceflight, the astronaut data starts to becomes less accessible. So, at some point, it naturally stops being practical/possible.

@slowe Yeah, I can understand. Infact, I was just watching at it to have a better idea of the increments now with all of these Axiom missions. It's becoming harder and harder to manage these kind of things now. I can feel you and I don't want you yo burn out! 😃
I'm sorry for your dad 😕 I wish you all the best! And thank you for the kind reply.

@astronauticast OK, I *think* I've managed to update up until the end of 2023. If I'm missing anybody, please let me know. cosmos-book.github.io/human-sp Unfortunately, a bunch of space tourists have little biography information.

@slowe Ohh wow! Thank you! I didn't mean to put you at work 😅 But I appreciate it a lot.

@slowe Woah, it is visually impressive how things changed since 2021. One can really see how harsh is the line between before and after Commercial Crew, plus the chinese commitment. I thought it was just a feeling, but no, everything really changed suddenly!
