@midge Having founded a makerspace (and also recently quit, I might add), I've learnt that educational organisations tend to view makerspaces as "just a room with craft materials" rather than as centres of community, shared learning and invention. It's a pity, but I think it's because they feel they have to control it and give it a syllabus and objectives, rather than leave it to the sheer joy of creating. If yoiu do go down this route, be aware it's a LOT of work, and slog.
