Taking to Mastodon to wonder discontentedly why
in 2017 I could get the 07:05 CrossCountry train from Leeds and arrive into Birmingham New Street at 09:10 (a journey time of 02 hours 05 mins), whereas
tomorrow the same company's 06:12 from Leeds is scheduled to tootle into New Street at 09:08 (02 hours _56_ mins)

So effectively Leeds to Birmingham by has now _increased_ by more than the entire journey time promised after the 2016 HS2 phase 2b consultation

@mattedgar Has the route changed and added stops or something? Even the indirect route via Manchester isn't great, I didn't think it used to take over an hour (although I guess that's to Pic rather than Vic)

@mattedgar Sounded daft enough I went to look it up...

Looks like a not so cunning plan to avoid paying out refunds, due to a late arrival in Birmingham, ever?

Alternatively... maybe there is a mandatory long stop for staff cup of tea and a bun at both Doncaster and Derby?

I'm now scared to look up how long it takes to get to/from the North from down here in Cornwall... given it takes an hour longer these days for just that bit up there 😬

@mattedgar it’s a temporary (I think) diversion where you go from chesterfield down the Erewash valley route and then hoik a sharp right back up to Derby - with a reverse there. So your Chestefield to Derby time is a lot longer than usual…

Still, it still takes too long even when going the more direct route!
