I've been experimenting with Indian Kolams in Kuguri-Zashi Sashiko-ish style - inspired by @anu1905 https://alpaca.pubpub.org/pub/eljjyi80/release/6.
I haven't yet managed to duplicate the machine-embroidered grid but I'm working on it! Here's a couple of 3-3 dot Kolams on a hand-stitched grid (I was surprised they aren't all single path).
#WeekNotes
@anu1905 yay! It works when I follow the instructions properly. Probably shouldn't have used felt, as the needle kept getting caught, but happy with the result generally.
@jackie_pease your experiments are lovely! Thanks for sharing them. I love the different hand stitched grids and the boxy effect it produces.
And to your point, yes, you can have multiple paths in a single kolam. I just personally enjoy the single path ones :)
@anu1905 it does look very boxy, I'm going to have another go at your embroidery machine grid but I'm hoping if I use something less flexible it will curve round more anyway
I like the single path ones best too.
@jackie_pease yes please have a go at playing with the tension. I’d love to know!
@anu1905 Thanks! I thought it might be that.
@jackie_pease the shiny surface makes it look like these are unsupported nets which made me briefly highly confused about the physics of it, but this is a great effect!
@Betty I know - difficult to take a photo at all!
@jackie_pease it looks beautiful I’m so glad the instructions were useful. I think @yaxu will be pleased to see it! Alex is the genius behind the embroidery files and documentation.
Let us know if you have new thoughts or ideas to develop this piece further :)
@anu1905 @jackie_pease Looks great! Yes thoughts/ideas/suggestions welcome.. I'm sure the embroidery grid could be improved
@jackie_pease @anu1905 By the way you might have noticed that some stitches are reinforced.. If you start in a certain row/column offset you should find yourself using the reinforced ones.
