Superb group this evening.

We caught the ferry over to Seacombe; had a brief stop at the Ferry inn while waiting for stragglers; then a ride round the Wirral coast to West Kirby.

Pizza and a pint at the West Kirby Tap; then a ride back all the way to Liverpool.

There was one other person in the Mersey Tunnel when we rode through it - the policeman escorting us (it's closed to cars while they're upgrading the lighting)

@amcewen Looks like a great ride. I once did a circular route across the Mersey by ferry from Woodside then back via the Runcorn bridge. The longest ride I've ever done!

I've never pedalled through the tunnel. I'm pretty sure the Queensway byelaws permit bikes (at least at certain times) but did you need to request that police escort or did you just turn up?

@aroundthehills Haven't done the Wirral over the Runcorn bridge yet. The Wirral Circular is nice, but a bit long for our Friday evening rides. Want to try a run over into Wales from the Wirral sometime.

@aroundthehills Normally you can ride through Queensway after 8pm and before 7am(? I never need to worry about that end of it 😁). I've done it both with and without an escort, we tend to only get an escort if there's a group of us.

You just turn up and use the emergency phone to ask them. Might involve a few minutes wait if they need to drive over from the other side (or the other tunnel).

At the moment, because the Queensway tunnel is closed after 9pm for works, you have to have an escort

@amcewen Thanks. That's useful to know. I probably need to do an official tunnel bike ride first, like the Chester-Liverpool ride, to check I can actually pedal all the way. It'd be embarrassing to have a police escort while I'm pushing my bike. 😄
