This is the most horrifyingly unethical research I have seen in a long time. How on earth is the University of Wisconsin's IRB allowing this sort of thing to happen? Getting all of this data without consent from students at a university, even working out who their minor-age friends are?

@CatherineFlick this is also so wildly out of whack with other data that I have seen, and so directly tied to a CCP policy initiative that I have trouble seeing this as anything but propaganda being at *best* unwittingly science-washed by US researchers
@CatherineFlick really, really hope there is an investigation here
@glyph I’m speaking with some US colleagues before I write a letter.
@glyph I have now written two letters.
@CatherineFlick Thank you for doing that.
To circle back just a bit since I think I didn't express it particularly well earlier: the issue that I have with the results *is* also an ethics issue. These results will be used to drive policy discussions. If they are science-washing non-functional interventions—whether credulously or deliberately—that is potentially a tremendous harm to far more people than were initially harmed by having their data stolen by the researchers.
@glyph Yeah, this is true. Anyway, let's see what the investigations produce (one of my letters has been responded to with a promise of one)
@glyph yes especially since we found that there wasn’t much change after the mandate came in I’m more worried about the egregious lack of ethics than the results though
@CatherineFlick por que no los dos ;). But yes the ethical issues are also absolutely shocking
