Btw tried this Stannol SnCu0,7NiGe solder, as NiGe is supposed to flow almost as well as proper leaded stuff, and it did. But apparently the Kristall 600 flux used in this did not wet stuff as well as it could.
And the joints were not shiny :(

Or maybe it's because it's Stannol.

Anyone familiar with a #headphones #cable like this? The wires inside are very fine, and apparently with braided insulation. When I try to strip it, I end up with many fine strands, and I can't see the difference between the braid and the signal wires ... Maybe I'm just supposed to #solder through it? Had some success with that, but is presumably not good for my #soldering iron tip ... Any suggestions?

Fixed a broken #Miele #induction #hob. This is the KMDA 7774, manufactured year 2018. A nice cooktop with integrated extraction fan and flexible cooking zones. The glass panel #touch #sensors /#buttons started to fail, with problem to set levels, to turn the hob on and ghost turn-off while cooking. After disassembly, soldered all contact surfaces of the conductive rubber buttons residing under the glass, snapped-in on the #PCB. Had to snap each button off, and they were many! SMD solder iron too small for proper heat, but a regular sized WTB tip on the Weller station at some 400 deg C worked fine, using a desoldering pump to remove superfluous solder. Each pad is a via and even if looking pristine (no fog on the PCB, no visible oxidizing) it was enough resistance to become faulty. Believe this to be #conductive sensors and that the via size and/or thickness was wrongly designed. Might even be an issue with the design recommendations of the component supplier and not Miele. #DIY #repair #electronics #solder

While I'm sad to see the Elenco company being gutted by its private equity owners, it does mean some good things are turning up in surplus

Example: WeMake Silver Solder for $2 or so. It's a pocket tube (11 g) of Sn/Ag (96% / 4%) with a sweet-smelling rosin core. It's way better than the lumpy Sn/Cu typically seen as budget solder. It flows really well, too.

Princess Auto and Sayal may have it, but availability is branch by branch

Once you remove the rest of the screws holding the board in, you can gently remove it (the battery spring is a bit fiddly) and flip it over.

I heat the solder points with my iron and use a solder-sucker to remove as much solder as I can from the three leads

(then I can just wiggle them free)

Make sure to solder the new one in the correct orientation
