#Rehsumpf, #Dessau

Der Rehsumpf in Dessau ist eine alte #Flussbadeanstalt an der #Mulde. Die Familie meines Mannes hatte hier mehrere Stelzenkabinen und einige Generationen haben ihre Feierabende, Wochenenden und Sommerferien hier verbracht und Schwimmen gelernt. Mittlerweile ist das #Flussbad ganz heruntergekommen und nur wenige Kabinen sind noch besetzt. Da geht leider ein Stück Geschichte verloren und auch die Erinnerungen werden langsam verblassen. Seit 2016 versucht ein Verein, den Rehsumpf und die Erinnerungen am Leben zu erhalten. // Rehsumpf (literally "roe deer swamp") in Dessau is a historic recreational area and #lido on the Mulde river. Hubby's family had several cabins here and multiple generations spent their evenings, weekends, and summer holidays at this river bath and learned to swim. Today, the lido is derelict and only a few cabins are occupied. It's a piece of history that's fading away, and soon, the memories will follow. Since 2016, a club tries to keep Rehsumpf and its memories alive.

Der 60 Meter hohe #Jahrtausendturm im Magdeburger #Elbauenpark ist einer der höchsten Holztürme bzw. -gebäude der Welt. Im Inneren kann man auf sechs Ebenen 6.000 Jahre Wissenschaftsgeschichte entdecken. // The Jahrtausendturm (Millennium Tower) in #Magdeburg's Elbauenpark is one of the highest (60m/200ft) wooden towers/buildings in the world. It houses an interactive science exhibition on 6 floors, covering 6,000 years of science.

Das "#Hexenhaus" im #WörlitzerPark passt heute auch gut zum #FootpathFriday. Das Häuschen wird auch #Wurzelhaus oder #Borkenhäuschen genannt. Fürst Franz von Anhalt-Dessau hat es angeblich im Rahmen der damaligen Südseebegeisterung als privates Badehäuschen errichten lassen. Bei der aufwendigen Restaurierung 2021 wurde aber entdeckt, dass das Häuschen (oder zumindest Teile davon) erst 1817 erbaut wurde (da ist der Fürst gestorben). // The "witch house" in #Wörlitz #Park is a good fit for #FootpathFriday too. It is also called "bark house" or "root house". It is said that Duke Franz of Anhalt-Dessau had the hut built as a private bathhouse during a Polynesia craze. However, when the hut was restored in 2021, conservators discovered that parts of it were built in 1817, the year the Duke died.

We were supposed to get our new hens today, so we got up super early and drove half an hour to the poultry supplier's collection point (their site is very far away and once a month they deliver poultry to a pick up point in our region). Guess what. They forgot our hens! So now we have to wait two more bloody months for them (next month we'll be on holiday)! Kiddo and I were so upset, argh!!
On the bright side, the morning light was really lovely and I got this shot from the car.

Here is #Germany's most famous #door (the website even claims it may be the most famous door in the world, ha!): The "Theses #Doors" of the All Saints' #Church in #Wittenberg. It is said that Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on this door. These theses launched the #Protestant #Reformation in 1517, resulting in the birth of #Protestantism.

Of course this is not the original door from back then. It burned down in 1760 in the Seven Years' War, together with most of the church, and was replaced. These #bronze doors were installed on Luther's 375th birthday in 1858, with his theses inscribed in Latin. Today, the doors are only used for special occasions. And for photos of course. Lots and lots of photos ...
