With you beside me on the road of life,
companions sharing meals on river shores,
we will not wander lost in Nowhere Land
because we know the secret names we share
as we help each other no matter

I wrote a poem five years ago, when my heart was aching from the loss of my dog. She was my shadow. I've never let anyone read it, but I've now put it on my blog. Time eventually heals, but I never forget her. After 18 months we felt ready to find a new four-legged companion and she's great.

I'm certainly not a poet and have never written one before. But I felt the urge to get some words down on paper at the time.

Through neatness of my progress to transcend
physical limits this body entails,
I stretch ardent wings of my conscious hope
broad as the sky that protects all living beings
so I can develop
