Was feeling a bit bad I'd not had enough helpers to pick all the fruit on the community allotment.. but took some compost down this evening and just sat watching things for a bit. Lots of bees, wasps, dragonflies, various butterflies, ladybirds, some baby frogs in the pond and very cute bank voles with their tiny babies who have nested under some moss next to the pond. Voles and frogs moved too much to get photos but a picture of the bees loving the flowering oregano. #biodiversity #frog #AllotmentLife #gardening #permaculture #bloomscrolling

Building AI and huge data centers in the desert is WILDLY ignorant and misdirected behavior. It's almost as if the people who build and design these things don't even consider naturally cool or water rich places. They don't even try. I mean, if ya gonna build something that needs ALL THE WATER, then why not build it where water never stops? Nevermind. Don't you dare touch the rainforest and shorelines. How 'bout we just shut it down altogether?
Not being accountable to resources IS the downfall of humanity. I have never had a question or bout of loneliness so deep that I am willing to turn to chatgpt and away from the resources that we depend on for ACTUAL life: water, air, land.
The people who continue to push Capitalism as "the way" are actively going against what is best for people and planet. There is NO ethical consumption under #capitalism We MUST return to reciprocal, nurturing relationships with the land and each other, as indigenous cultures have for generations. #mutualaide #offgrid #generalstrike #conservation #permaculture #solarpunk #community

What's the best way to boost organic matter in soil, aka lock up carbon to counter #climatechange?

Plus soil fertility and resilience to drought!

*mulch (not stone or gravel)
* don't till
*cover crops
* leave lawn clippings and leaves
* replace lawn with clover
* replace annuals with perennials
*compost everything
*let wetlands be wetlands

What am I missing? Please add your ideas!

In this dry weather, bees desperately need water. If you can, put out a bowl of water. Add some stones or bits of wood for the bees to sit on, so they can drink without risk of drowning.

The number of bees coming to my bowls is enormous - see video.

Please don’t give bees sugar water and mashed apple and such. Those cause harm. Clean water is what bees they need.

Getting aquainted with plantain herb. Learned about it from herbalist in workshop couple years ago, looking for it to recognize since then. Recently saw big patch in a park, and confirmed with another visitor who knows medicinal plants. Good for scrapes and cuts and bug bites and rashes. Some put it on wounds. Which is great for me as I seem to be on Favorites menu for all the skeeters and ticks in this county, and have scratched myself scabby!

The park patch has some flower stems poking up. That made me wonder if it will produce seeds (surely it must), and how I might collect some to plant. So I looked up how to propagate. Thought I would share what I found! This plant is good medicine, which we will surely need as ~ all the evil~ going forward, useful food, and helps break up compacted soil and helps prevent erosion.

Which makes me think it might be good solution to another little park elsewhere, with newly raised walkway next to newly raised seawall by tidal river that floods now sometimes.

Gardener's Path · How to Plant and Grow Plantain | Gardener’s PathOften thought of as a weed, common plantain is actually edible, medicinal, and restorative to soil. Learn how you can grow and enjoy this useful herb.

> There is one, and only one solution, and we have almost no time to try it. We must turn all our resources to repairing the natural world, and train all our young people to help. They want to; we need to give them this last chance to create forests, soils, clean waters, clean energies, secure communities, stable regions, and to know how to do it from hands-on experience.

Drank the last of my #Nerada tablelands grown tea. No more "no nonsense" regular tea is grown in Australia, as Nerada now import everything and repackage it here. I'm not going with the random mixed-origin clear-cut-the-land-and-damned stuff if I can avoid it, especially as we do have a small local planting still clinging on.
