VIVIZ -- MANIAC -- Full Ver. -- 250318
youtu.be/9mQKhuw6iQE?si=jrnrnk

As is often the case with fancams, the sounds coming from the audience make me wonder if I really want to see my favourite Kpop groups live.

Perhaps I'm just not much of a concert goer when it comes to popular music; when I was younger, I attended very few rock concerts.

On the other hand, I could be missing out on something wonderful, which is why I am always keen to read thoughtful fan accounts of Kpop concerts.

My main reason, however, for posting this video, which was recorded earlier this year, is to show the shorter hair that SinB had then.

I know that long tresses make up part of the visual culture of traditional youthful femininity, but I love to see idols with bobs and shorter hairstyles in general -- they can look so chic!

In addition, "Maniac" is always fun.

Ever waver on whether you should go to a show or not and within 30 seconds of it starting you wonder how you could ever consider skipping? Yeah, that's me at this Fruit Bats show. It was a schlep to Rockaway Beach, but every damn song is a killer. Every one!

Man, I just love the music this dude makes. Sound here at Rockaway Hotel is surprisingly stellar and the backing band is a solid A+. EDJ crushing it. There's a reason I own *multiple* Fruit Bats t-shirts.

For no reason, here's 10 sets that unscrewed a thing or two in my brain during the first 2/3 of the year.

In chronological order:

Russo/Medeski/Cline @ BK Bowl, set 2
Metzger/Goldberger/Dion/Scannella @
Nublu
SML @ Lodge Room, set 2
Lage/Roeder/Baron @ Vanguard late set
Widespread Panic @ Chicago Theater w/ Billy Strings
Frisell/Sverisson @ First Unitarian
Oh/Sorey/Akinmusire @ Vanguard late set
Phish Tues @ the Mann, set 2
Lucius @ Grassroots Fest
King Gizzard Fri @ Forest Hills

The inimitable David Byrne has a new album coming out and is about to commence a 50-date North American tour. He talked to @RollingStone about the title of his new record ("Who is the Sky"), how Fred Armisen convinced him to try stand-up comedy, and why there won't be a Talking Heads reunion. "Musically, I’ve gone to a very different place. And I also felt like there’s been a fair number of reunion records and tours. And some of them were probably pretty good. Not very many."

Rolling Stone · David Byrne: ‘Am I Ever Going to Get Any of This Figured Out?’By Simon Vozick-Levinson

Tonight:

First stop at the Stone for a set from Brian Marsella, Jorge Roeder, and Ches Smith playing John Zorn's Suite for Piano. Holy shit, that was some wild, amazing music. Zorn in the audience and hopefully he was as bowled over by Smith's drumming as I was. As electrifying an acoustic piano trio I've ever heard. Marsella playing JZ works all week, wish I could hit em all!
