Sinclair’s defeat shaped how socialists navigated the Democratic Party for decades.
Will Mamdani rewrite that legacy or relive it?

Democratic Socialist Zohran #Mamdani shocked NYC by winning the Democratic mayoral primary—beating Andrew #Cuomo in a landslide.
But it wasn’t unprecedented. For historians, it looked a lot like socialist novelist Upton Sinclair’s primary victory in 1934 (thread)

Today's piece I thought I'd share is this 19th Century Baptism Medallion from #Germany. Featuring #Jesus on one side, and Jesus being baptised by John the Baptist (Thanks @ossobuffo) on the other side, it's in great condition compared to some I've seen.

A few weeks ago, my brother watched me do some minor renovations on the house. "Cutting wood like an historian" has now become an officially sanctioned saying in the family.

When #Jahangirnama (Memoirs of the Mughal ruler #Jahangir) was being made, the #Mughal court was in #Ahmedabad giving #Artist #Bishandas the only opportunity (this was the only time he travelled outside his province) to study these two minor Rulers of #Gujarat!
Here is a #medallion featuring #Pope Pius XI - head of the Catholic #church from 1922 - 1939 - he oversaw the creation of #Vatican City as an independent country (previously part of the Papal States from 756 until conquered by Italy in 1870).
The reverse reads "Ricordo Di Roma" or "Memory of #Rome", common on souvenirs.
No post for this, but here is a Pius XI coin I did write up: https://coinofnote.com/1931-vatican-5-centesimi/

We recently added a unique manuscript to our #collection: a Book of Hours, written around 1480 at Selwerd Abbey. It is a relic from a period when #Groningen and its surroundings stood at the cultural forefront of the Low Countries.
The manuscript can already be consulted in person at the library and will soon be made fully accessible online!

Update: seven months after vetoing an overwhelming majority vote by its membership to stand in solidarity with #palestine’s academics amid the #genocide in Gaza, the AHA has put out “Guiding Principles for Artificial Intelligence in History Education.”
Among other things, it suggests you can use generative #AI to “produce a historical image.”

Here's an interesting one I saw from "The Sized" on facebook. Not a coin but a different kind of #bullion: "A 14 karat gold LEGO brick was given out in the early 80s to employees who had worked at the German LEGO factory for over 25-years. They are valued at over $15,000. These standard-sized 2x4 LEGO bricks were given out 1-2 times a year from 1979-81"
