"Between the program’s inception in 2017 and 2024, these rewilders planted more than 100,000 native #wildflowers and grasses and more than 3,000 #trees and shrubs for a total of 7,400 habitat gardens – and they’re just getting started."

I've been checking for swallowtail butterfly #caterpillars on the golden alexander plants (carrot family) all season and coming up empty. But on the garden carrots, all of a sudden, there are some nice fat ones. #gardening #pollinators

Gardening patience is waiting all summer to harvest two cups of fresh basil for pesto...
Chaos. Disorder. Lawlessness. There might even be some public displays of affection. I love my garden!

Did we have more corn tonight? Yes, indeed! We're getting near the end now and some of these are like half sized (and counted as such) but still mighty tasty.

Another thing I learned:
The reason I have never seen an artichoke even though I've planted the damn things for 4 years running, is that they have to get cold for a period, as though they survived the winter, before they'll fruit.
And also that because I live in zone 5, they won't actually survive the winter.
So I put the fuckers in the fridge.
And they do seem to be sprouting, although I may have waited until too late in the season to do this, and I'm not sure that they have enough time to actually produce the bounty of artichokes I was promised.
But at least I now know what the secret is for next year.
Woah! It's not often you get to see fig seeds developing.
We predictably ended up with So Many Tomatoes, so here is my little tomato freezing zone: two small flat Pyrex containers to freeze them in a space efficient way and a ziploc bag for long term storage. I'll put the ziplocs in the chest freezer downstairs, forget about them, and then use them for soup in 2026.

OK, I think I’m done playing in the kitchen today.
I didn't know one is supposed to store cut potatoes in water w/some citric acid.
Lost about 4 quarts or so of potatoes because of the rookie mistake.
