#Wildlife identification boards have been installed at 15 rail stations across #Essex and South #Suffolk, thanks to a £500 grant from Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund. The boards, which focus on bees and butterflies, are part of a project by the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (CRP). Stations with wildlife gardens or pollinator-friendly planters, maintained by community volunteers, offer ideal spots for observing local species. Jayne Sumner from CRP highlighted the importance of these mini havens for wildlife, especially as habitats face threats. Greater Anglia’s Partnerships Manager, Scott Dolling, praised the initiative, which supports pollinators and fosters community involvement, with over 335 volunteers enhancing over 10,000 square metres of land.

Signage at rail stations across #Essex has been upgraded with a £7,000 grant from Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund. The Essex and South #Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (CRP) used the funding to install line-specific branding at all stations on the six rail branch lines in Essex. These lines, including the Sunshine Coast, #Mayflower, #Gainsborough, #Flitch, Crouch Valley, and #Southend lines, now feature unique logos on station signage to help passengers identify their routes easily. Jayne Sumner from the CRP highlighted the significance of the new branding in promoting each line’s identity. Greater Anglia’s Partnerships Manager, Scott Dolling, praised the initiative for improving station signage and supporting community-focused rail enhancements. The Customer and Community Improvement Fund aims to support local initiatives that enhance rail travel and benefit the community.

"Theatre management said a “small number of customers expressed their frustration” towards another customer who had been heckling the act throughout the evening."

Can't say I would convict anybody who beat up a heckler at a gig, people paid to see the act, not audience member's narcissism.

Meet CBC's Windsor Morning federal election panel
CBC’s Windsor Morning program hosted its first federal election panel on Wednesday. They’ll take place each Wednesday leading up to the election with the same three local insiders from the main parties. The NDP is represented by former Essex MPP Taras Natyshak. For the Conservatives, it’s Al Teshuba, a former candidate who's with the Winds...

Just seen a comment on FB from a chap in #Essex whose dad is in the #RNLI - his dad has been told by the #security team *not* to wear uniform off duty for his own safety due to the level of backlash against RNLI helping #migrants (from people who have 0 idea of how #maritime operations work, and that the whole concept of that service is to retrieve humans (and sometimes other creatures) who have ended up in the sea / tidal waterway but didn't intend to be there)..

Sir Rod Stewart is right - I was in South #Essex myself a week ago, having turned off the #A12 on a fruitless search for a loo (I later found one at #Chelmsford), and regularly found myself having to drive almost in the crown of the road to avoid #potholes , and this is in a modest #VW #Polo (stock springs, not lowered or anything like that) - not a #Ferrari (I dread to think how much that would cost if you scraped it, even a millionaire may baulk at the garage bill)

Frinton-on-Sea has always been a bit snooty. No pubs were allowed, and instead of "keep off the grass" signs they had ones that read "no picnicking upon the greensward". An old railway advert, seeking to attract ferry passengers said "Harwich for the Continent". It was invariably defaced with "and Frinton for the incontinent"

I got some of the shopping centre names wrong as I rarely go into South #Essex and have not been to #Basildon since 1990 (and was ejected from the Eastgate shopping centre by security for wearing a hoodie and hanging around with local youths I'd befriended) - but I seem to spend a fair bit of time in the area recently (including long drives along the #A12 as its the only route out of this part of #EastAnglia to SE England)
