I'm extremely excited about seeing this cute little echidna in the wild! Look at its little face! Look at that ridiculous waddle and its backwards feet! It even wants to be my friend!
Nosing Around.
I saw this echidna on the way to the beach. Luckily I was downwind so it didn't notice me for a while (their sense of smell is much better than their eyesight, which is poor at best).
Camp "B".
Echidnas come in 2 varieties:
A - those very far away and tiny.
B - those that are completely unaware of your existence and consequently walk right up to you, so close you can barely focus.
This was the "B" variety.

“Native Porcupine" [#Echidna], 1974
Woodcut print, image 8.75” x 9.0” The artist often sketched zoo animals in NYC, especially at the Bronx Zoo - found out they had echidnas back in the 1950s when he was there, so they likely served as the model for this piece!

Attenborough's long-beaked echidna, an egg laying mammal, has been rediscovered in Indonesia's Cyclops Mountains after being last seen over 60 years ago.
Spotted this resident at the lease block - solves the mystery of what was going under the fence.

Echidna in the yard.
Such a cutie
Australia’s spiky, shuffling, egg-laying echidna evolved in ‘extremely rare’ event, scientists say
Researchers have compared the monotreme’s traits with the Kryoryctes cadburyi, an ancient water-dwelling creature that lived in Australia more than 100m years ago

I reckon spotting an echidna is the Australian equivalent of finding a 4-leaf clover. Down our paddock yesterday. Such cool creatures. #Echidna #RockleighSA
E is for… #Echidna
Echidnas, along with the platypus, are the only egg-laying mammals that still exist on Earth.

Look at this happy healthy creature who I spotted crossing the busiest road in my suburb this evening at dusk.
This one was studiously ignoring the myna birds who were outraged that an echidna was passing through their territory, while also being ignored by the sulphur crested cockatoos who were coming home to their night time trees.
Ok, must be me, and marsupials have an issue with me. On walk Tuesday evening and come round a corner and an echidna is waddling down the road. I stop to take some photos and it just keeps coming, Everything seemed to be in slow motion, then again it could be that echidnas are pretty slow. Before I knew it, it was pushing through my legs. Not sure if this can be considered an attack but I was having flashbacks to Xmas eve.
