Richard Rollinson<p>The tomatoes have started to come through a little better now, although they are smaller than usual (but taste great!). We had a little surplus for the neighbors to set out today. Best thing is that the corn conveyor is still providing for our corn-fest. BeetBear keeps count and has his share and we all enjoy raspberries and whipped cream after dinner!<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/SweetCorn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SweetCorn</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
hicksy2<p>Autumn is coming and it's not even August. Here's a nice cluster of hazelnuts on a tree I planted in December 2020. Hoping the squirrels leave them alone. I'd quote Steve Albini but he's a misogynist or something. Further images to come (maybe) of other hazels I have planted over the last five years. Richard Rollinson<p>The actual air temperature hit 100°F (38°C) AGAIN this afternoon and the heat index topped out at 112°F (44°C) This pretty effectively stopped any gardening efforts on my part. HOWEVER, corn-fest rolls on with another dozen ears to go with the tomatoes at dinner tonight. Hope this heat breaks before the cucumbers start to boil...<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/SweetCorn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SweetCorn</span></a></p>

Productive ~7 hour day down the #allotment — the plot is now (probably) muntie* proof, and hopefully somewhat rabbit resistant.

Big progress on the front fence and gateway, whole front centre area of the plots has been tidied up. Temporary back barrier using the freecycle lattice. Strimmed the rear DMZ and out front of the plots.

As usual plant care is taking a back seat to construction. :( But next year... next year...

* muntjack, or sika deer — not a slang term for the native Fenlanders, we call them webbies, on account of the webbed toes for swamp wading.
