The UK's Secretary of State for #Transport, speaking at the National #Railway Museum in York on 10 April 2025, shared her vision for a transport system that works for everyone. She highlighted her personal journey, from growing up in #Swindon, a car-dominated town, to working on transport projects in #London and Swindon. She emphasised how transport can improve lives by providing opportunities, connecting communities, and fostering regeneration. Her focus is on delivering local solutions, such as better buses, improved railways, and accessible roads. She also spoke about enhancing public transport, ensuring it's reliable, affordable, and sustainable. With initiatives like the #Railways Bill, the Bus Services Bill, and a £1.6 billion investment in local highways, she aims to build a transport system that supports people’s aspirations and helps unlock opportunities for all.

Great Western #Railway (GWR) and Network Rail are combining their Control functions into a single, joint team to enhance collaboration and service delivery. This move builds on their 2016 alliance, aiming to improve operational performance by uniting track and train management under one leadership team. The combined teams, based in #Swindon, will manage the safe daily operation of the GWR network. Daryn McCombe, GWR’s Train Service Delivery and Performance Director, will also serve as Network Operations Director. He believes closer collaboration will improve operational efficiency, reduce disruption, and ensure a reliable, seamless experience for passengers. Daryn has been with GWR since 2015, holding roles in stations, driver management, and Control and performance teams.

A 30-something #girlboss type distracted a worker and robbed a #charity #shop in #Swindon Western #England of £95 (to know what a "Z" (zero) reading is and how to trigger one requires knowledge of retail and having worked in a small business (which doesn't use EPOS)

on older tills it wipes out the records of the days takings, covering the tracks of how much was nicked) - it usually prints the takings but only if till roll is present an many small businesses don't always install it #crime

A repair #garage and #bodyshop in #Swindon #Wiltshire was #busted by HM #Immigration Enforcement for hiring illegal workers and fined £80 000 - it doesn't make long term sense for the business to do that, mechanics and bodyshop workers are on the shortage list and can get visas legally, but its likely to be the culture of short-term/precarious employment in #automotive (to sponsor a worker means hiring them for a minimum #salary ) - £80k would easily have paid for this
