I might have discussed this before, but it's come around again: "toxic positivity".
This is the natural over-reaction to "toxic negativity" where defensive fans strongly reject not just "toxic" shallow hate, but quickly ANY criticism that's in opposition to their feelings on the topic.
Positive-only discourse is nearly as bad as the "toxic negativity" they rail against.
Sorry kids, no artwork is entitled to criticism-free discussion. Like it or not, art IS going to provoke a reaction, whether it's good or bad.
I think the difference between "toxic" and just healthy discussion about our disappointment is being able to articulate a reasonable subjective objection and not take it all too seriously. Not just "lol that show sucks, this season sucks, fucking Berman/Kurtzman, they're DESTROYING #startrek, etc." .
Why does it "suck"? Let's dig into that!
Let's compare and contrast our experiences. But denying the right to be discontent is ...a concerning trend. It creates an echo chamber circlejerk.
