"People are not interested in that picture-perfect, glossy thing anymore. We need to see that grit, because that's reality" - Emilie Blichfeldt on The Ugly Stepsister (aka Den Stygge Stesøsteren) https://www.eyeforfilm.co.uk/feature/2025-04-16-interview-with-emilie-blichfeldt-about-the-ugly-stepsister-feature-story-by-paul-risker #film #cinema #fairytale #movies
One of the best speeches and scenes in movie history!
‘This is my church!’ Karl Malden in On the Waterfront…

For decades people have laughed at the film Moonraker - James Bond in space! - as a silly, over the top film.
But it acquires a new relevance in modern politics for it is basically telling the story of one Elon Musk, a man who is basically Hugo Drax in his desires to go into space and seed the earth with his superior progeny.
"You know what? You're the best Wolverine."
All shot practically using lighting, figures and miniature sets
Part of my 1960s viewing collection, Blind Corner was released in 1963. A British crime film it starred William Sylvester (Danger Man, Ghost Squad, The Prisoner), Barbara Shelley (the first leading lady of British horror), Elizabeth Shepherd (briefly Emma Peel), and Alexander Davion (Gideon’s Way). The film’s tag line - She loved one man for kicks, one man for luxury, one man for murder.
What IP - game, book, comic, stageshow, whatever - that hasn’t been adapted to film or TV should be, or any that were done but deserve a better attempt?
My go to choice here is The Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind, which deserve a much better attempt than Legend of the Seeker (which wasn’t terrible, but was a far cry from the books)

THE RANGER #Review
Perfectly passable Forest horror that makes its low budget work for it. If Larry Fessenden isn't in an indie horror movie, did it ever get made?

37 years ago, on April 16, 1988 'My Neighbor Totoro' and 'Grave of the Fireflies' by Studio Ghibli were released in Japan as a double feature. Two films rather different in tone and themes, one exploring the topic of loneliness and the other depicting the horrors of war during WWII, both equally masterful in storytelling and animation.
TIL last week. The crazy college students on Spring Break trope originated in a 1960 movie starring a very young George Hamilton.
I never did the crazy week in Daytona thing in the 80s. The one year we went to FL for Spring Break was my senior year. We stayed at a friend's parent's condo in sleepy Longboat Key, and we brought our girlfriends.
Happy Birthday, Charlie Chaplin! Born on April 16, 1889, he captivated audiences with his creativity and humor. In this memorable clip from his 1928 silent film The Circus, the iconic Little Tramp cleverly escapes the police in a hall of mirrors, showcasing Chaplin's innovative filmmaking. This classic marks his first Academy Award and his last silent film.
