Concerned governments should push for independent verification of the electoral results and support international efforts to ensure accountability. </p><p>"International observers have raised serious concerns about the July 29 announcement by Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) that <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Nicol%C3%A1sMaduro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NicolásMaduro</span></a> had been re-elected president. Following the announcement, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets, in largely peaceful protests, to demand a fair counting of the votes. Human Rights Watch has documented that Venezuelan authorities and <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ProGovernment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProGovernment</span></a> armed groups known as '<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/colectivos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>colectivos</span></a>' have committed widespread abuses, including killings, arbitrary detention and prosecution, and harassment of critics. On September 2, a judge issued an arrest warrant against opposition candidate <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/EdmundoGonz%C3%A1lez" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EdmundoGonzález</span></a> for '<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/conspiracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>conspiracy</span></a>,' 'incitement to <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/disobedience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disobedience</span></a>' and other crimes.</p><p>" 'The repression we are seeing in Venezuela is shockingly brutal,' said Juanita Goebertus, Americas director at Human Rights Watch. 'Concerned governments need to take urgent steps to ensure that people are able to peacefully protest and that their vote is respected.'</p><p>"Venezuelans voted in the presidential election in large numbers, despite irregular government actions and human rights violations in the lead-up to the election, including arrests of opposition members, arbitrary disqualifications of opposition candidates, and restrictions on Venezuelans <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/voting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>voting</span></a> abroad. Several hours after polls closed, Venezuela’s electoral council declared that Maduro had won the election with over 51 percent of the vote. The Electoral Council has not released the tally sheets from the election, nor conducted the audits and citizen verification processes required by law. </p><p>"The United Nations Electoral Technical Team and the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CarterCenter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarterCenter</span></a>, which observed the elections, said the process lacked transparency and integrity, and questioned the declared result. They indicated that, instead, the precinct-level tally sheets that the opposition made public were reliable. The Carter Center noted that the tally sheets showed, with 81 percent of the votes counted, that <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Gonz%C3%A1lez" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>González</span></a> had won the election by a significant margin. </p><p>"Venezuelans have taken to the streets across the country, particularly in low-income areas traditionally supportive of the Chavismo movement, where many incidents of <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/repression" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repression</span></a> have taken place. </p><p>"Human Rights Watch received credible reports of 24 killings in the context of <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/protests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>protests</span></a> from independent local groups, including Foro Penal, Justicia Encuentro y Perdón, Monitor de Víctimas, and Provea, or discovered them on social media. Human Rights Watch independently documented 11 of these cases, including by reviewing death certificates, verifying videos and photographs, and interviewing 20 people, including witnesses and other local sources. Many relatives, witnesses, and others were not willing to be interviewed because they feared <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/GovernmentRetaliation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GovernmentRetaliation</span></a>.</p><p>"Human Rights Watch analyzed and verified 39 videos and 2 photographs of protests found on social media platforms or sent directly to researchers by people close to the victims, and by local organizations and journalists. </p><p>"Researchers confirmed the exact locations where these videos were filmed; used information such as shadows, weather patterns, and upload dates to determine the time of day; and consulted with forensic pathologists and arms experts, who analyzed the injuries and weapons that were seen and heard. </p><p>"According to Venezuelan authorities, they arrested over 2,400 people in connection with protests. The local pro bono group <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ForoPenal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ForoPenal</span></a> recorded over 1,580 '<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PoliticalPrisoners" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoliticalPrisoners</span></a>' who have been arrested since July 29, including 114 children. Prosecutors have charged hundreds with sometimes broadly defined crimes carrying harsh sentences, such as '<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/incitement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>incitement</span></a> to hatred,' '<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/resistance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>resistance</span></a> to <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/authority" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>authority</span></a>,' and 'terrorism.'</p><p>"The government has also intensified its broader repressive tactics, cancelling passports of critics to prevent them from leaving the country, encouraging citizens to report on <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/demonstrators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>demonstrators</span></a>, and conducting abusive <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/raids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>raids</span></a>, especially in low-income communities. Ook hebben zij de tekst Blood Money op het gebouw gespoten. De actie volgt op eerdere acties van XR: Justice Now! en andere actiegroepen. Zo is het pand afgelopen jaar geblokkeerd, zijn ramen van het pand ingeslagen en is het pand vaker met rode verf beklad.</p><p>Booking.com blijft accommodaties aanbieden in de illegale Israëlische nederzettingen in de bezette Palestijnse gebieden. Ondertussen krijgt dit steeds meer aandacht in de media. Zo publiceerde The Guardian onlangs een diepgaand artikel over hoe zowel Airbnb als Booking.com bijdragen aan de winst die Israëliërs halen uit gestolen land.[1] Ook bracht Argos een documentaire uit over de oorlogsmisdaden op de Westelijke Jordaanoever, waar Booking.com van profiteert.[2)</p><p>In een reactie op het artikel van The Guardian[1] ontkent Booking.com de militaire bezetting. Het bedrijf stelt dat wanneer een regio “geclassificeerd wordt als betwist of getroffen door conflict”, het daarover aanvullende informatie toevoegt. In hetzelfde artikel benadrukt Amnesty International dat “toeristische bedrijven zichzelf medeplichtig maken aan een door bloed doordrenkt systeem van Israëlische oorlogsmisdaden en systematische onderdrukking.” Geen toerisme op gestolen land. Doordat Booking.com actief blijft op de West Bank, werken zij volgens XR mee aan de illegale bezetting en voortdurende annexactie van Palestijns grondgebied.</p><p>Het geweld dat ten grondslag ligt aan de illegale nederzettingen van Israël in Palestijnse gebieden en de medeplichtigheid van Booking.com hieraan is veelvuldig en zorgvuldig gedocumenteerd in meerdere onderzoeken van organisaties als PAX, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International en zelfs de Verenigde Naties, die erkennen dat Booking.com schuldig is aan “het in stand houden en bevorderen van illegale nederzettingen in de bezette Palestijnse gebieden”. [3] [4] [5]</p><p>Vier organisaties deden het afgelopen jaar aangifte tegen Booking.com wegens het witwassen van winsten uit oorlogsmisdrijven. [6] Booking.com negeerde eerder de oproep vanuit de VN om dit verdienmodel op te doeken en staat daardoor nog steeds op de zwarte lijst van de VN (herziene editie komt uit 2023). [7]</p><p>Booking.com ontkent volgens XR haar verantwoordelijkheid om niet te profiteren van of bij te dragen aan mensenrechtenschendingen en plaatst de verantwoordelijkheid in de schoenen van de consument, die volgens het bedrijf zelf kan bepalen of ze gebruik maken van de aanbiedingen van Booking.com of niet.</p><p>Met het verjagen van de Palestijnse mensen van hun eigen land, het verbranden van olijfbomen, dempen en vergiftigen van waterbronnen en de gigantische uitbreidingen van de Israëlische wapenindustrie, ziet XR ook een regelrechte klimaatcatastrofe in de gebieden waar de Palestijnen worden verdreven. Naast de onmenselijkheid van het onrecht dat Palestijnen wordt aangedaan, staat het schenden van het recht op veiligheid, gezondheid, gemeenschap en respect een rechtvaardige klimaattransitie in de weg. Sociedad Noticias<p><strong>Opinión | Sociedad | ¿Libera México?</strong></p><p><strong>Una parte importante de la lucha contra la trata de personas en México enfrenta una crisis inesperada, ante una traición interna que ha socavado años de trabajo en la protección de víctimas…</strong></p><p><strong>Por José Víctor Rodríguez Nájera</strong> </p><p>Una parte importante de la lucha contra la trata de personas en <strong>México</strong> enfrenta una crisis inesperada, ante una traición interna que ha socavado años de trabajo en la protección de víctimas, por lo menos, desde las entrañas de la “<strong><em>Fundación Camino a Casa</em></strong>”.</p><p>En el centro de este conflicto se encuentran los nombres de <strong>Paola Patricia Tosla Muñoz</strong> y <strong>Daniela Fernanda Tapia Bazán</strong>, quienes, tras su paso por esta fundación, realizaron presuntos actos para desviar recursos, según consta en dos carpetas judiciales, en poder de este reportero, y que investiga la<strong><em> Fiscalía General de Justicia</em></strong> de la capital del país, a través de su unidad de investigación de delitos en materia de trata de personas.</p><p>A partir de las denuncias -ya formalizadas- de la secretaria de la mesa directiva de la organización civil, <strong>Mayra Hernández Figueroa</strong>, se sabe que tanto <strong>Paola Patricia</strong> y <strong>Daniela Fernanda</strong> enfrentan acusaciones por la comisión de los delitos de “<strong><em>usurpación de funciones</em></strong>” y “<strong><em>administración faudulenta</em></strong>” cuando participaban en la “<strong><em>Fundación Camino a Casa</em></strong>”.</p><p>En este contexto, la<strong><em> Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF)</em></strong> de la <strong><em>Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP)</em></strong> recibió 230 informes de transacciones financieras sospechosas presuntamente relacionadas con la trata de personas, principalmente de estados como Jalisco, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, México y la capital del país.</p><p>Por si fuera poco, en este mismo espacio adelantamos en junio de 2020 que, grupos de la delincuencia organizada –que operan de manera particular en Michoacán— emitián certificaciones ilegales, para intervenir esteticamente a decenas de mujeres con la intención de ponerlas a disposición del mercado de trata de personas en todo el mundo.</p><p>Esta última idea haría pensar que, autoridades federales como la <strong><em>Fiscalía General de la República, Guardia Nacional, Secretaría de Marina-Armada de México, Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional </em></strong>y, la <strong><em>Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana</em></strong>, deberían intervenir para coadyuvar en la investigación de la aparición de “<strong><em>Fundación Libera</em></strong>”, organización liderada por las mismas personas hoy acusadas: <strong>Paola Patricia</strong> y <strong>Daniela Fernanda</strong>.</p><p>Los delitos de “<strong><em>usurpación de funciones</em></strong>” y “<strong><em>administración faudulenta</em></strong>” son acciones ilegales que representan dos de los problemas más graves dentro de las instituciones públicas y privadas en nuestro país. Lejos de ser meras irregularidades administrativas, minan la confianza en las estructuras de poder y afectan de manera directa a la ciudadanía; en este caso, a las víctimas del delito de trata de personas; acción mercantil que en manos de los tratantes, deja millones de dólares en utilidades ilícitas.</p><p>La red que respalda a esta nueva “<strong><em>fundación</em></strong>”, que de manera casual plagió el mismo nombre de una agrupación chilena, no sólo estaría desviado los fondos o revictimizando a las personas afectadas, que por si mismo es muy grave, sino que ha emprendido una campaña para desacreditar a quienes han dedicado su vida a combatir la trata de personas por décadas, que dicho sea de paso, sería una actividad que el Estado mexicano debería combatir por sí mismo.</p><p>Dentro de esta campaña de desprestigio, sobresale el nombre de <strong>Rosi Orozco</strong>, activista y ex legisladora que ha acumulado años de servicio social, con un sinnúmero de casos atendidos a favor de víctimas de este grave delito. Por si fuera esto poco, ha sido una de las figuras más influyentes en la lucha contra la trata en México. Su trabajo ha sido clave para crear la <strong><em>Ley General para Prevenir, Sancionar y Erradicar los Delitos en Materia de Trata de Personas</em></strong>, aprobada por unanimidad por el Congreso de la Unión.</p><p>Este ordenamiento jurídico ha golpeado directamente los intereses del crimen organizado, ya que ha permitido endurecer las penas y ha obligado a las autoridades a prestar mayor atención a este delito. Su implementación ha permitido desmantelar redes de explotación y proteger a cientos de víctimas en todo el país; algunas, quizá muchas, dirigirlas: camino a casa.</p><p><strong><strong>Punto Cero</strong></strong></p><p>Lamento profundamente la pérdida física de <strong>Isabel Miranda de Wallace</strong>. The document was billed as 'a blueprint to counter antisemitism' and offered strategies to target and silence critics of Israel, including deportation. A fact sheet about the executive order related by the Trump administration mirrored language from Project Esther and laid bare the order’s intent to 'cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathizers on college campuses,' vowing to deport 'all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests.'</p><p>"Such ideas are increasingly gaining purchase in conservative discourse. Pledges to deport supporters of Palestinian rights were a key part of the Republican Party’s platform.
