hi hello I wrote up a little #blog #post about cooking up my own theme for hugo:

my host is blocking link previews from being pulled so here's a screengrab instead.

@midzer For v0. 0.1 I decided to go with a pre-made theme. It came with a js bundle that I think is used for a drop-down menu & banner?
I haven't investigated it in too much detail as I am actually working on my own theme right now, which will be #JavaScript free
New slashpage: /uses on #BurgeonLab
https://www.burgeonlab.com/uses/
Finally got round to listing all (maybe I'm forgetting some) my favourite tools, software, hardware, services on one page. Plan to expand the list further by adding my favourite analogue tools and adding some images in the future.
And a question... Should I add links to all the products/apps?
Most folks who work with #Hugo probably know this already, but I know I heckin didn't:
When you build your site using `hugo server`, the **base URL config gets ignored** and you end up with fun localhost:1313 references all over your rendered html files!
It can manifest as "my CSS is rendering great locally, but when delpoyed, there's no CSS at all!?" To fix, use `hugo`, or add flags.
Thx to Stackoverflow user pramod https://stackoverflow.com/questions/77565438/hugo-website-homepage-url-still-points-to-localhost-despite-valid-baseurl-in-hug and Aral Balkan https://ar.al/2018/06/20/override-baseurl-in-hugo-server/!
New post on #BurgeonLab
https://www.burgeonlab.com/blog/hosting-static-sites-with-github-pages-or-bunny-net/
Finally decided to take my first actions on migrating away from GitHub.com (#GiveUpGitHub) by moving my burgeonlab.com static blog out of GitHub Pages to Bunny.net Storage + CDN.
Also, I've decided to go for @sourcehut as my Git repo host—but that warrants its own post.
hi! hello
I made a smol website well, v0.0.1 of one, anyway.
please behold https://www.robyns.space/ it is but a lil bb of a website!
built with #hugo & the #reTerminal theme. probably going to post about things I also post about here, just in a longer format - #FOSS, #privacy, #retroGaming, the small / indie web, #urbanism & utility cycling.
Mastodon verification, which is a thing I can now do!!, still pending.
@robyn If I stop videos and go back to a website or blog, I’ll get your advice on #Hugo through #RMarkdown as that seems like a fun route. I take all the advice I can get from people with actual #skillz. My two coworkers with PhDs in ML have me using PyCharm for my air quality project and another good coworker got me to dual boot my desktop into #Mint running on a USB. Wish I used a bigger USB as Mint is nice in my limited use so far
@geodarcy That is amazing. Fun crossover bit: my first #Hugo implementation, years ago, when I was still in academia, was run through RStudio. Once it was set up, publishing RMarkdown via Hugo was surprisingly easy!
Are you planning on sharing the models and/or results publicly at some point? I know I'd be super interested! R municipal politics =
SO UH. If you have ever used #Hugo before, many years ago, and then you stopped using it because you took that website offline..
DYK that, if you follow the current "Get Started" guides and install Hugo via, say, winget, and you absolutely cannot figure out why your version is somewhere in the 0.40s when it should be 0.148, *that there may still be executables hanging out on your HD that do not show up as installed apps*
.. I ended up replacing those files manually and OH LOOK it builds 2/x
So I recently stumbled upon @binarydigit 's awesome website, which rekindled my interest in setting up something similar. For me it would be a simple blog where I share stupid and silly stuff, like "which #retroHandheld do we like" or "my #PopOS did a weird thing and here's how i fixed it". Like the #web of yore.
I've bought a domain and am going to use a static site generator. I'd worked with #hugo before but am going to try #Jekyll, for giggles.
Will post updates here
Made a trial account on # BunnyCDN Maybe it's time to move one of my static sites from Github Pages over to Bunny's Storage + Pull Zone?
There's https://bunny-launcher.net/ which seems handy for deployment. But I need to learn a bit because I'm in unfamiliar territory!
#hugo users here? Do you have a template to have monthly and yearly overview of posts, for sections like 2025/ and 2025/01/?
Edit: templates (need cleanup) for archive https://git.h.oluflorenzen.de/hugo-blogs/blog-nur-bahnhof/src/branch/main/layouts/archive/section.html and non-archive https://git.h.oluflorenzen.de/hugo-blogs/blog-nur-bahnhof/src/branch/main/layouts/archive/section.html

For the record, it was once again forgetting that by default, the goldmark HTML renderer is in safe mode.
I never want it to be defaulted to safe mode because I am generating my own HTML from my own static content; you can't have an xss exploit if the user never inputs data.
Doing some Hugo work again on a website.
I like Hugo a lot, but there's something about the templating language that makes me have to relearn how to dereference data structures every time I write something.
"Is it this? No, so it must be this. Oh no it's not, okay, I guess I'm going to write a small short code that dumps debugging data... This way! Alrght that's closer..."
This time around, I'm going to remember to make a Hugo cheat sheet for the Go templating language.
Once again, a quick post... I wanted to add comments to my blog. So I did and created a little guide on it. https://godfrey.online/posts/adding_comments_to_hugo_using_mastodon/
#mastodon #hugo #blog
EDIT:
I should add here. This code isn't mine, I just adapted it and tried to make a easier guide to follow.
it's been quite a while, so lemme write a new #intro
