🇬🇧 For tonight a lone photo from my visit today, the charming little city of Nivelles is certainly a visit worth!

The collegiale Sainte-Gertrude is the landmark of the city, and it is bright again as the facades were totally restored.

For those who want, I already have set some pictures of the Parc de la Dodaine, the green place in the city (link here under).

Enjoy your evening! 👋

06/04/2025 - A sunny day out to the city looking at trees. We visited the James Hutton Institute arboretum. It's not big but has a really fine selection of trees. It's home to the tallest tree in Aberdeen, a Sitka Spruce standing at 44 m.

05/04/2025 - A sunny day out looking at stuff. We saw some great big things but it's the little things I always love best.

A few snaps of some things that made me smile.

Early mining bee - Seemed happy on its dandelion.
A female larch cone - I love these.
Holly leaf miner - Nice patterns on the leaf.
Furry Dronefly - I'm a bee honest!

Forge Mill Needle Museum, in Redditch, is not a large museum, but it is full of interest, and the staff and volunteers were delightful. I can recommend it.

Bring walking shoes and time, if that appeals, there is also a two hour self guided walk around the water meadow and associated archaeology, which I wasn't able to fit in.

Home again, home again, jiggety jig.

Lovely afternoon with friends, excellent food. Fester and I are both exhausted!

He's not done much travelling before, and was a little stressed at points. He HATED the escalator at the train station. More adventuring is needed, I think!

07/03/2025 - Day off work. We headed to the hills. A fine loop up and round Peter Hill on a sunny day in Aberdeenshire. Mild with little wind, just a really nice day for a walk. We plonked down in the heather and had our butties. It was quiet on the hill, I was happy. We saw a lovely adder on the way up enjoying the sun. Good birds too, red kite and snow bunting on top, skylarks everywhere, grey wagtail and dipper on the river near the end. Top day out.

🇬🇧 Arrived in Michelau where I'll take a train back to Luxembourg and there will be an extra to this day out as the tramway serves since yesterday the Airport. Line 1 is now complete.

28/02/2025 - Last day of Meteorological winter. We had the day off work and the weather was sunny so we headed for the hills. A fine walk up Mona Gowan from the Strathdon side. It was just us and a big blue sky. A good day for birds. Raven and golden plover on top. On the way back through the woods we had a couple of crossbill. A great day out, good for the heads.

Well, today was unexpected.

Saturday which means going out for coffee with Billy. So he appears at mine, asks where we are heading, I say I have ran out of goats cheese, and ping, Billy says he has a friend that makes (and sells) goats cheese. So off we went.

Naturally that means a drive up through Glenshee, a stop for coffee, then up to his friends house in Banchory for coffee, a little walk so I could take photos of the river (not included in this batch of photos), a photo of a totem pole that signifies the Scouts many years of association with Scouts in Canada. Then since I still wanted to walk on a beach we done a fleeing visit to Aberdeen where I got to walk on the beach for a few minutes before the rain came lashing down.

I love how a couple of minutes on the beach, especially on a wild day, can absolutely reset my brain.

I am absolutely exhausted with those numb, heavy limbs again, I have super expensive goats cheese in the fridge, I bought one book (see that level of restraint 😉). At least I am home now, in my pjs, hot water bottle on my knee and I should really try to eat something now since all I have had today is a vegan sausage roll from Greggs.

Tomorrow is a definite rest day before physio on Monday morning!

26/01/2025 - Today we looked at big things and little things and things in between.

Bus out and a long walk home on the quiet roads. Lots to see from wonderful giant redwood trees to bedraggled tiny daisies. Plenty birds too. We sat by the river half way back and watched as curlews, reed buntings & goosanders went about their business. All not that common for us. Red kite, brown hare and roe deer later which made for a lovely end to our walk.

25/01/2025 - A trip to town. I forget how nice Aberdeen is for a walk. A sunny winter's day today, it was looking great. 10 mile walk from the bus station, through the harbour to the lighthouse (we saw dolphins and purple sandpipers, happy us). Then back over Tullos Hill with its ancient cairns and trigpoint to Duthie Park for a coffee. Finally along the River Dee to catch the bus home. Top day out, even the humans weren't too annoying. I'm very sleepy now.

#3GoodThings

1. Despite feeling like shite (mentally!) I went out to Edinburgh today for my friend's birthday and had a nice time

2. Got to admire my favourite piece at the Women In Revolt exhibition one last time before it ends (see pic, although the picture cant possibly do it justice)

3. Didn't break down crying, or go home early today. I'm SHATTERED, but very happy to have celebrated my friend's birthday with him!
