Federal district court judges in 3 different states have forcefully rejected that view & blocked #Trump's executive order voiding #BirthrightCitizenship. And 3 separate appeals courts have refused to unblock those court orders. Judge John Coughenour, a Reagan appointee in Washington state, was the first judge to block Trump's EO, calling it "blatantly unconstitutional."

This should have been rejected

#SCOTUS to hear challenge to #Trump's #BirthrightCitizenship order in May

The #US #SupremeCourt Thurs deferred any ruling on Trump's claim that there is no automatic guarantee to birthright #citizenship in the #Constitution.

The court said it would hear arguments in the case on May 15, with a decision likely by late June or early July.

The one good thing about this whole Christian Conservative Nationalism nonsense happening in America is at least the Canadian working classes should theoretically realise what voting for the Conservatives could easily create here, and that the right is definitely not on the side of anyone who earns less than $500,000+ a year and who isn't a white male.

The working classes in the US are facing costs of living going up by tens of thousands of dollars a year, because they are being told they will save a few hundred dollars a year on things like cheaper gas, a lack of carbon taxes, not having to pay for regulation. They can't do the maths because they don't have the data from their propaganda disguised as TV (although Fox is slowly starting to realise what's happening, I am pleased to say). And they have been indoctrinated with the belief that the news-sources they should trust are the enemy and broadcasting fake news - All of them, all around the world.

The first step in the dictator's playbook is to take over the media and make the people think that other media is all lies. Do you think people in North Korea would trust a CBC, NBC or BBC documentary on anything, even just kids going to school and wondering what jobs to take when they leave? Nope, that's fake news to the Koreans, same as it's fake news to so many Americans sitting at home watching Newsmax all day because Fox has started lying to them.

Social security, if it's not completely scrapped, will be made work dependent - So people who rely on that will be doing the jobs that the immigrants or people in China can no longer do, because "America First" - So we will have Veterans and the Disabled working in factories and fields, they will become the new indentured workers, working till they die. And this isn't a wild prediction, it's what they say they are going to do, it's no secret.

Trump says he loves the "poorly educated" (note - He didn't say the poor), and Pee Pee, with his Trump, Christian-nationalist, Canada First playbook, does too.

Thankfully, Canada mostly has a decent education system - But still, propaganda and misinformation is well crafted (by the very educated, we social psychologists have to do something with all of those degrees now we can't sell you tobacco) and it works very well. It doesn't help that the liberals here are very much into shooting themselves in the foot, presumably with the guns they want to confiscate for no reason from a huge chunk of their potential voters. So we'll see what happens.

I am preaching to the choir on here, obviously, but it's a good place to store rants :D

Marco Rubio's hunt for "#AntiChristian bias" is creeping #theocracy

In a new war on federal workers, State Department employees are told to snitch on people with #Pride flags

By Amanda Marcotte
Published April 15, 2025 6:00AM (EDT)

Excerpt: "Unsurprisingly, a deeper read of the cable shows that 'anti-Christian bias' is the cover story propped up to justify Rubio's actual assault on freedom of religion at State. He's giving Christian nationalists at the agency a tool to harass and even Rpurge people who don't share their #FarRight beliefs. The definitions of 'anti-Christian bias' throughout add up to outrage that conservative Christians are expected to treat people who believe differently with fairness and decency.

"For instance, the memo asks for reports of 'mistreatment for opposing displays of flags, banners or other paraphernalia,' specifically during Joe Biden's administration. It doesn't take a doctorate in bureaucratese to interpret this. Rubio is seeking stories where conservative Christians were told to mind their own business after objecting to a colleague putting up a #PrideFlag, a #BlackLivesMatter sign or perhaps a religious knickknack from a #NonChristian faith. This might be more comprehensible if, say, any Christians had being told they couldn't wear a cross or have a picture of Jesus on their desk. Instead, what Rubio is suggesting is that Christians have [the right to] prevent other people from having the freedom to express views and positions they dislike — and that it amounts to 'bias' if they can't control what others do or say. Salon.com · Marco Rubio sets up a State Department snitch line for "anti-Christmas bias"Rubio wages new war on federal workers who reject theocracy

While I'm certain Amanda Marcotte and I have different ideas about how to actually fight fascism, I agree strongly with her argument that Marco Rubio's cable asking State Department employees to use a snitch line to report each other for "anti-Christian bias" is both an indicator of the regime's theocratic intentions and an ominous portent of the next moral panic the Trumpenreich will use to purge its enemies and continue installing a fascist dictatorship.

Marco Rubio's hunt for "anti-Christian bias" is creeping theocracy

"Unsurprisingly, a deeper read of the cable shows that "anti-Christian bias" is the cover story propped up to justify Rubio's actual assault on freedom of religion at State. He's giving Christian nationalists at the agency a tool to harass and even purge people who don't share their far-right beliefs. The definitions of "anti-Christian bias" throughout add up to outrage that conservative Christians are expected to treat people who believe differently with fairness and decency.

For instance, the memo asks for reports of "mistreatment for opposing displays of flags, banners or other paraphernalia," specifically during Joe Biden's administration. It doesn't take a doctorate in bureaucratese to interpret this. Rubio is seeking stories where conservative Christians were told to mind their own business after objecting to a colleague putting up a Pride flag, a Black Lives Matter sign or perhaps a religious knickknack from a non-Christian faith. This might be more comprehensible if, say, any Christians had being told they couldn't wear a cross or have a picture of Jesus on their desk. Instead, what Rubio is suggesting is that Christians have a prevent other people from having the freedom to express views and positions they dislike — and that it amounts to "bias" if they can't control what others do or say.

Also defined as "anti-Christian bias" is alleged mistreatment for "opposing official media content due to religious objections." Under Biden, the State Department flew the Pride flag, validated the passports of trans people, allowed LGBTQ employees to be out at the office, and expected employees to use the correct name and pronouns for trans colleagues. Under this new policy, if State employees objected to these policies, they are now free to punish those who asked them to show professional courtesy to co-workers. This is not an anti-discrimination policy, but a pro-discrimination policy."

Throughout the rest of the piece, Marcotte does a solid job of debunking the idea that anti-Christian bias is a significant problem in an increasingly Christian Nationalist/fundamentalist America, and pointing out that what Rubio is doing is enabling Christian Nationalists working at State to harass and potentially purge anyone opposed to their odious ideology; including other Christians who do not conform to the very narrow definition of believer the Christian Nationalist worldview allows for.

"What's ironic here is that, because of American demographics, most of the people who risk being targeted by these authoritarian policies are either Christian or grew up Christian. But a large part of the MAGA project is redefining "Christian" only to mean people who share a white nationalist, anti-feminist, anti-LGBTQ worldview — and want to use force to bring everyone else in line."

In other words, it's just another project to install fascist ideology as the only acceptable way to think and act inside the Trumpenreich-controlled US government. Where I think Marcotte's analysis shines however, and what I hope readers take away from this story, is the author's direct connection of this nascent argument for another fascist purge, with its prior two arguments for doing so as we watch them evolve into their horrifying final forms in real time; specifically the regime's fake wars against "antisemitism" and "gang activity."

Like most fascist movements, what some call "Trumpism" is actually a giant quilted patchwork of reactionaries, supremacists, and eliminationists who are ideologically aligned under the big picture fascist umbrella, but have (at times) wildly different priorities and concerns on the micro level, inside each individual clique. One of the core constituencies in the fascist Trump alliance are Christian Nationalists and the evangelical right; whose loyalty to the regime was rewarded with an anti-trans pogrom and assaults on public education (among other things) the moment Trump was inaugurated. Now, slightly staggered as their two prior fake moral panics become exposed as just bog standard fascism, what better way to right the nazi ship of state than to drum up a third moral panic about anti-Christian bias? This would rally the Christian right around Trump's banner, while the regime continues its project to purge "enemies" and install a fascist dictatorship, in what it hopes will become a white ethno-state.

In the latest case of growing Christian Nationalism in the US...

"The Trump administration has ordered State Department employees to report on any instances of coworkers displaying “anti-Christian bias” as part of its effort to implement a sweeping new executive order on supporting employees of Christian faith working in the federal government." #politics #ChristianNationalism #religion

As I alluded above, I haven't really spent a lot of time talking about Trump's objectively unhinged tariff policies for two primary reasons; first, I'm actually pretty busy writing about the overt Gestapo shit the regime is doing, and second a corporate media complex that is far less interested in properly examining all that Gestapo shit, is singularly obsessed with covering the economic damage caused by Der Führer's tariff regime - likely because this portion of the fascist agenda negatively impacts the type of rich maggots who own and invest in corporate media companies. Unfortunately, these tariffs are also bankrupting a huge portion of the American labor class, and politically speaking this carnage is probably the first time we've seen any of the awful shit Trump is doing actually produce fractures in the cult-like unity of the fascist coalition that brought Trump back to power. Billionaire broligarchs and deluded MAGA rubes who thought massive tariffs and mass deportations would somehow make them rich too, are both, in their own way, offering some degree of pushback against Trump's tariff policies precisely *because* now the fascism is hitting them where it counts (as far as they're concerned) - in the wallet.

In the grand scheme of things, does that actually mean anything? To be honest with you, I'm not sure. The fact is these people are still very much ideologically united around an authoritarian Christian Nationalist agenda, and as long as the Trump regime keeps handing them dopamine hits by "owning the libs" and actively trolling the targets of the regime's cruelty and assault on civil rights, I don't see the coalition breaking any time soon. That having been said, the billionaire broligarchs paid to put Trump into power because they believed it would be profitable for them, and even labor class MAGA rubes have to put food on the table or save for retirement; the material pressure the Trump regime is putting on their own support network is not totally irrelevant, I'm just not sure any of these people are capable of logically connecting their enthusiastic support for white nationalism and the cult of Trump, with the carnage the regime's policies are inflicting on their bottom lines. Only time will tell whether "doing white supremacy" matters more to them than making money, or if the perceived gains (for white nationalists) of Trump's fascist policies will outweigh the measurable financial impact of the regime's economic policies on their lives.

To examine what some of this fascist on fascist (rhetorical) violence looks like, let's flip over to this 15 minute video summary by Mike Figueredo of the Humanist Report; if nothing else, the schadenfreude is delicious.

The Humanist Report: Trump’s Biggest Boosters CRY About Tariffs Costing Them MILLIONS: “Kamala Come Back”

youtube.com/watch?v=2bfEk0Xvw9

"Pro-Trump influencers like Dave Portnoy, Adin Ross, DJ Akademics and Ben Shapiro are now complaining about Trump’s tariffs despite using their massive platforms to boost him before the election. They even joked about wanting Kamala Harris to “come back.” Furthermore, tech CEOs who endorsed Trump—or donated to his inauguration fund—have lost a combined $1.8 trillion in market value due to Trump’s tariffs. Additionally, GameStop’s CEO, Ryan Cohen, promoted Trump endlessly on Twitter before the election, but half-seriously stated that he’s turning into a Democrat due to Trump’s tariffs. But oligarchs and executives aren’t the only ones mad about tariffs; gamers are outraged that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have been postponed due to Trump’s tariffs, and some of Trump’s own supporters are horrified after losing thousands of dollars from their retirement funds because of the tariff-induced stock market plunge. In this video we’ll talk about these reactions to Trump’s tariffs."

While a lot of the stories in this thread focus on the cowardice of institutional actors in either submitting to, or even assisting the fascist Trump regime in installing a Christian Nationalist dictatorship, when the history of this political moment is written, it will be noted that it was actually big companies in the US private sector that embraced the regime's white nationalist policy platforms first and in doing so, helped legitimate Trump's quest to rule as King of America. Unlike institutional actors in higher education, lawyers targeted for revenge by Der Führer, or bodies controlled by the (openly fascist) US government through funding, large corporations in the private sector required little if any incentive to adopt Trump's authoritarian "anti-DEI" policies; indeed, companies like Walmart, Paramount, and even Victoria's Secret practically fell all over themselves to align with the regime's agenda, essentially obeying in advance, before the administration had to apply any pressure at all.

Why would they do that? As this short essay in The Guardian lays bare, the truth is that they never really wanted to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion even before the rise of Trump - which is why the programs they installed after the twin motivating factors of the George Floyd protests against police violence, and the COVID pandemic, were never really designed to achieve those objectives in the first place.

American corporations didn’t want to diversify, anyway

"Within days of taking office, Donald Trump signed an executive order that would eliminate Johnson’s civil rights order. The order directed the office of federal contract compliance to stop “promoting diversity” and holding contractors responsible for “affirmative action”. To Smith, the administration’s early actions amount to “a blatant effort in order to not only uphold the white power structure, but to remove any government responsibility to uphold the rights of individuals of color, specifically Black people”. It is the fruit of a conservative movement that has been trying to reverse course ever since the government began taking seriously efforts to protect the rights of Americans regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

In 2020, hundreds of private companies pledged to change their culture – to use their power and influence and, most importantly, money, to re-shape American society toward more just ends. Now, the three largest employers in the nation – Walmart, Amazon, and the federal government – have all rolled those policies back. Dozens of other corporations have turned back the clock on even pretending to care about equality in the workplace as well.

To businesses’ credit, they had a difficult task ahead of them in 2020. “They’re faced with putting a policy in place quickly that’s responsive and doesn’t sound like lip service to frustrated people,” Dawkins said. But in doing so, they made an admission: they had not been taking diversity seriously before – and the capitulation to the administration’s demands since has betrayed that truth. And they made clear their efforts were always lip service."

Look, I don't think it's really news that much of the American private sector's DEI initiatives were motivated more by *appearing* to oppose white supremacy and enforced social hierarchies in an increasingly Christian Nationalist political environment, than actually opposing those problems. This was pointed out long before Trump's second term, and obviously their actions since the regime was installed have demonstrated that critics were right to question the commitment of American corporations that directly profit from a white supremacist order that marks out certain groups of people for brutal exploitation. In that context then, it's important to understand that we are in fact not "all in this together" and a corporate sector that gladly donated to Trump's election campaigns must be understood as *active* partners in the installation of a Christian Nationalist dictatorship in America. The fact that they did so because they think it'll improve their bottom line is largely irrelevant; fascist collaboration is still fascist collaboration, regardless of the motives that inspire it.

As I mentioned in the post above, the Trump regime's war on the existence of trans people is clearly important enough to them ideologically and politically, to enact a series of punishments on the entire state of Maine, to cow their governor Janet Mills into submission. That's not just my interpretation as a trans woman, we literally just caught the acting Social Security Administration Commissioner admitting as much in writing:

commondreams.org/news/leland-d

"The top Democrat on the U.S. House Oversight Committee on Wednesday led calls for the resignation of acting Social Security Administration Commissioner Leland Dudek following the revelation of internal emails confirming that the SSA canceled contracts with the state of Maine as political payback after Democratic Gov. Janet Mills publicly defied President Donald Trump in support of transgender student athletes.

The emails—which were obtained by House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Gerry Connolly (D-Va.)—show that Dudek ordered the cancellation of enumeration at birth and electronic death registration contracts with Maine, even though SSAd subordinates warned that such action "would result in improper payments and potential for identity theft."

Dudek—who is leading the SSA while the Senate considers Trump's nomination of financial services executive Frank Bisignano—replied to the staffer: "Please cancel the contracts. While our improper payments will go up, and fraudsters may compromise identities, no money will go from the public trust to a petulant child."

He was referring to Mills, who stood up to Trump in February after the president threatened to suspend federal funding for Maine unless the state banned transgender girls and women from participating on female scholastic sports teams."

I mean good on Connolly to call for Dudek's resignation, but are centrist party strategists even paying attention to what's going on here? I can't stress how degrading it is to keep having to remind powerful cis people who were happy to promote supporting trans rights as a brand eight years ago, that the fascist Trump regime's anti-trans pogrom is going to affect everyone who isn't a fascist negatively, not just trans people. But also, that's exactly what's happening, and even as we speak these same people point to opinion polling as an excuse for leaving trans people and their civil rights to the tender mercies of guys like Stephen fucking Miller.

Common Dreams · Emails Show Trump Official Targeted Maine Social Security Services as Political Revenge | Common Dreams"Trump is clearly comfortable weaponizing Social Security for political purposes, and we fear that this is only the beginning," said one critic.
