One of the many Neolithic chambered long barrows around Y Mynyddoedd Duon (the Black Mountains) in South Walesfor today's #StandingStoneSunday offering.
Pen-y-Wyrlod above the Afon Gwy/River Wye; the long barrow itself has been ploughed down, leaving these stones from its chamber exposed.
This visit May 2012.
Y Mynyddoedd Duon (the Black Mountains) in South Wales for today's #StandingStoneSunday
The wrecked Pen y Beacon stone circle, situated at the foot of the summit of the same name (Hay Bluff in English). Only one sizable stone remains standing, although there are numerous smaller stones buried in the turf. Tremendous views and sometimes an ice-cream van.
This visit May 2012 while walking Offa's Dyke Path.
Maen Llia within #BannauBrycheiniog for #StandingStoneSunday. Also with added #dafaidodon.
Beautiful views today. This photo really doesn't give you the full appreciation for how steep and how far down this was. #BannauBrycheiniog #Cymru #Wales
A mossy little stone in a big landscape for today's #StandingStoneSunday
Lower Neuadd standing stone in the upper reaches of the Taf valley. Further up towards the head of the valley is a group of Bronze Age ring cairns, and above that the highest Bronze Age cemetery in Southern Britain on the summits of Pen y Fan and Corn Du. The stone may have been a marker to point the way.
This visit on a day of sleety snow, April 2012.
I miss this place.
I must find a cheap place to stay at for winter visits.
Made the most of the fine weather in Abergavenny after a Ramblers Cymru meeting and went exploring. The town is almost entirely surrounded by mountains and hills; Blorenge Sugar Loaf & Skirrid Fawr among them. #BannauBrycheiniog #Ramblers #SaturdayFun #Monmouthshire #Abergavenny #Cymru #Wales #SirFynwy #Blorenge #SugarLoaf #SkiridFawr #BannauBrycheiniogNationalPark
South Wales, in the shadow of Bannau Brycheiniog, for today's #StandingStoneSunday
The Growing Stone, at Cwrt y Gollen (a former military base) between Crickhowell and Abergavenny. The stone is a red sandstone monolith around 12 feet tall, one of the most impressive menhirs in South Wales.
Visited August 2011. Portrait, may need a click.
OMG. This is so embarrassing. #Cymraeg #BannauBrycheiniog

I stopped for lunch at the last viewpoint of my beloved hills and ate the last of my Welsh cakes. It was delicious as ever.
And what a ride it was
Glorious hill after glorious hill. Many sweaty ascents matched by mostly pothole free joyous descents.
No ice-cream van
I did good to take my back up Welsh cake.
A little cycle and I've arrived at my favourite place on earth in the foothills of Y Mynydd Du in Bannau Brycheiniog. Now to wait for the rain to ease so I can set up the tent.
I'm off to my happy place in Bannau Brycheiniog It's been a long time coming this year. Too long...
