I've been slowly collecting and painting 90's metal miniatures over the last couple of years. Here's a thread of some of my completed miniatures.

First up: , led by Phoenix Lord Karandras. I finished painting these in December 2021.

I'm aware that those of you who used to follow me on the bird site will have seen many of these miniatures already. I hope you don't mind seeing them go past again!

Here's another shot, this time of just the exarch and Karandras.

Peter Brett

The have always been my favourite classic miniatures, and they're what inspired me to start this collection. It turned out that Vallejo Light Turquoise was a much better colour for them than anything in the Citadel Colour line (and a really lovely paint to work with).

Jain Zar is an absolute badass Phoenix Lord. This was one of the very first minis that I painted after I restarted the hobby in 2021 (after a 20-year break), and she turned out much better then I was expecting.

Re-basing to the larger modern base size gave me space to do more interesting basing. Unfortunately she is still very top-heavy and tends to fall over…

I'm not a huge fan of the standard "orange jump suit" colour scheme for , so I decided to try something different with these metal ones. They came out… okay?

But I think that if I was going to try a colour scheme like this again I'd try to ensure higher contrast in the palette. There are areas where the highlights are inadequate, especially on the helmet. Grey turns out to be a difficult colour to paint convincingly!

@krans Oh mannn, I love these! The Swooping Hawks were the VERY FIRST miniatures I bought when I first got into 40K in 1995! I remember I had just one of those starter paint kits with a handful of primary colours and so that's what I used, and i also remember I went back and stripped them quite a few years later because the paint job was AWFUL. 😂

I ended up selling them to a friend which I kind of regret doing now tbh.
