feels very odd almost exclusively using twitter on desktop again, now I have no timeline app for mobile.

Very 2005. retro, baby!

For years, my Twitter experience has been:

Mobile Browsing/Retweeting: Talon
Mobile Posting/Notifications: Twitter website on mobile
Desktop Browsing/Posting: Tweetdeck

The Melon Lord can complain he's not been pushing ads at people like me. But I also generate his content.

In Musk's little idiot brain cutting off the tiny % who use 3rd party apps to read is a big brain move.

What he's done is drastically limited the amount of time I will naturally spend RTing or engaging

It'll be the same for other high-follower accounts.

I suspect Melon's not the kind of person who realises:

"they're a tiny %, they don't make me money, I can kill it"

has a natural flipside:

"they disproportionately generate engagements, and are only COSTING me a tiny %, so it's great ROI"

But anyway. Big win for this place. It's now my only morning in-bed doom/funscroll.

Well, I say win. Depends on how much you like random brain nonsense in your timeline.

@garius same here. As of this morning, I’ve moved Metatext to the space on my iPhone Home Screen previously occupied by Tweetbot.
I tried using the native Twitter app, but really, it’s just not worth the angst.
I’ll check debirdify from time to time to catch as many Twitter to Mastodon migrants as possible (assuming they advertise the face in their bio).

@garius I'm finding the ancient tweetcaster app is still working. Must be using the ancient apis that are still up. I only use it for the compact in-order from-where-you-left-off tweets of people you follow interface. Twitter broke threading on these apps a while ago though. I will stop using twitter when they disable the old apis as well.
