Everything is better from a train
(Even if the train is extremely slow)
@skinnylatte I need to explore CA trains a bit more next time I’m over. Used Caltrain between SJ and SF last week, but need to check out any more scenic options available.
I have used the Cascades line from Portland to Seattle which was beautiful.
@dwlt the Caltrain is so much better now that they’re electric. They used to run much slower and less frequently.
The Amtrak trains are very scenic
California Zephyr is amazing (going to Reno for the weekend is a fun short ish ride)
I also like the coast starlight to Portland
@skinnylatte yep, definitely a big difference from the first time I used it 20 odd years ago!
Going to explore the Amtrak site before my next visit in April
@dwlt fun! Lemme know if you need any train or food or city advice!
@skinnylatte Thank you! Always need food advice, especially in San Jose!
@dwlt I’ve got a tome.
@skinnylatte Setting a reminder to ask you for some in a couple of months!
@skinnylatte @dwlt +1 for the the Reno weekend trip.
If you have a few more days, go all the way to Denver and spend a couple or three nights there. As with the Sierras, the Rocky Mountains are beautiful this time of year.
@mightybigcar @dwlt if you’re into rock climbing, the Whitney peak hotel in downtown Reno has a wall in the center of the lobby. You can also check in a bike and ride to and from the station. They don’t need it boxed. (But check for zephyr and Reno coz it’s been a while). You need a ticket add on for the bike
It’s a nice bike ride to Verdi near the California border. Truckee is also a good spot
